THE LDK GAME, THE BEST CHEAP HANDHELD FOR RETRO EMULATION?
The LDK Game has proven itself worthy of being a contender in the “BATTLE OF THE HANDHELDS” and it was named victorious for the best cheap Chinese handheld for emulation on the We Deem Channel! The LDK Game Horizontal is, well the horizontal version of the first release of the LDK Game and although I am not a fan of the design of the handheld I can’t deny the performance. Let’s take a closer look at the LDK Game’s design, build quality and how well it emulates some of our favorite retro games because at the end of the day that is what it is all about!
Build Quality & Design
The LDK Game handheld housing and buttons are constructed of pretty sturdy plastic. The buttons are on the small side but feel really clicky but you can tell they are using a membrane, the d-pad feels pretty good and has a dip in the center where your thumb feels at home.
The analog stick feels pretty similar to the one on the PSP, the L and R trigger buttons feel good but they are flush with the top of the system which is weird at times but they are responsive.
The design of the console reminds me of a cheap my arcade system and honestly, during long gameplay sessions, the console can become uncomfortable to hold because your index finger rests at the rounded corner at the top.
Specs & Features
The LDK Game handheld features a d-pad, four action buttons which are not labeled but different colors, start, select, an analog stick which comes in handy when emulating Original PlayStation, L & R.
System: Linux(OpenDingux)
Display: 2.7 inch TFT screen (4:3)
Resolution: 240*320.
CPU: Dual core.
Chip: JZ4760.
RAM: DDR2 128M.
Disk: Built-in 16GB.
External memory: support up to 128GB.
The TFT Screen is really vibrant and far superior to that one in the Bittboy Pocket Go. The LDK Game has an internal sd card that you can access behind the battery and it also has expandable storage via an sd card slot on the bottom which is more then I can say for the pocket go.
Finally Thoughts
The Ldk Game Horizontal may not look pretty but it definitely has the heart of a lion and is one little emulation demon. The handheld does a pretty good job emulated 8bit and 16 bit systems. Systems such as NES, SNES, GENESIS, GAMEBOY, GAMEBOY ADVANCE, FAMICOM, GAMEGEAR,DOS, PLAYSTATION and more. Now for PlayStation your looking at 2d games running well and 3d games is where it will struggle. It does run Tekken a little better then the pocket go due to it having 128mb of ram vs 32mb of ram but it still unplayable. Overall, if you looking for a pocket-size retro emulation device the LDK Game Horizontal is a really good option and you can get it for cheap. However, if you looking to play PlayStation I suggest taking a look at the GameShell!
