As indicated, OSWZ is intended as an Open Source Web Zine. At one time, I was posting all sorts of articles relevant to open source software, from tips and techniques about using specific scripts to reviews and comparisons.
I thought it was so cool having a library of information about open source scripts, including views and opinions on what worked best for whom. I featured articles on web forums, (reciprocal and regular) link directory software, content management systems, photo galleries, shopping carts and I even linked to all sorts of example scripts as well as publicly accessible online tools and utilities.
Unfortunately, Google didn't like what I was doing because the library consisted almost all of previously published articles, and then Google slapped a huge duplicate content penalty on the website.
Even though Google had originally favored the website in the first place, sending all sorts of readers to it, I think it actually blackballed it after a while, which of course, was a shame.
But as I am a webmaster that utilizes lots of open source software in order to create and manage sites, and have even put up a few little utilities online myself, I thought I'd give this yet another shot.
Obviously, I'm going to be writing a lot of opinion and it will all start out as my original work. If someone else wants to contribute, they are welcome to, as long as it isn't a copy of an article that has already been posted. I can even set up extra editors, if you are willing to contribute to the Open Source Web Zine.
Hopefully, I'll be filling this blog up with useful info for webmasters, both newbies and old hands alike. Feel free to send me suggestions on topics or scripts I should check out, especially if they are easy to setup and use. I love those.
