So the Eurovision youtube channel fucking sucks lmao. 

HOWEVER, there is an internet web browser called “Opera”, that you could download for free. Not only does it come with free built-in adblock, but also a free built-in VPN as well, that you can turn on and off as you please. 

It takes a bit of digging through settings to enable the free VPN, but you can easily google the instructions on how to do that. 

ANYWAY, the VPN on Opera allows you to watch all the geoblocked videos on the Eurovision youtube channel, INCLUDING the semis and the final while they are streaming live. 

ALSO, it’ll allow you to watch the livestreams from other countries, I believe. Wanna watch the UK livestream? The French one? The Australian one? You should be able to now! 

And if for some reason, you’re unable to download or use Opera, SVT (the swedish broadcaster) has also been making the livestream of both semifinals and the final available to watch in the United States the past few years. I would assume they would be doing that again this year. You’d just have to watch with Swedish commentary.

Browser Problems

For the last few years I have been using the Opera Browser as my daily driver. Opera had competent security, and Opera Flow is an amazing reading-list system. Their mobile browsers were also impressive providing data compression using Opera Turbo. To add to Opera's security they provided a free VPN system to protect users from site trackers. It even had its own integrated ad blocker with anti-phishing. In 2019 Opera's corporate owners Fintech added advertisements to the Opera browser for predatory lenders. This helped fund Opera software as browser income waned. The Opera browser became what it was trying to protect against, a security liability. Recently Opera along with Fintech and Quadian were accused of predatory lending. This has caused their stock to plummet. It leads to the questionable ethics of Opera software. The once safe and secure browser choice is now a risky choice. Who knows how much information they are collecting. And just how secure is their VPN, Ad Blocking, and anti-phishing software.

Lately I have been trying out other browsers, and after trying WaterFox and Brave I landed on Firefox. I have been using it for about a month now and it has worked out well.

Securing Firefox

I secured Firefox like I would any other browser. I added Duckduckgo plugin for forced encryption, safe search, and anti-tracking. I then added AdGuard for advertisement blocking (yes I know ads support sites). I then added a VPN service to protect all my computers and devices.

The Firefox Mobile Experience

Firefox on Android works like it does on the desktop. It was easy to add the AdGuard plugin, but the Duckduckgo plugin is unavailable. Firefox on iOS is not quite as extensible. Apple does not allow for application level plugins requiring plugins to operate at the OS level. Happily, AdGuard works great, and blocks advertisements across the whole OS.

Conclusion

It's a real shame that Opera, a secure browser, became corrupted by money and corporate interest. I was enjoying Opera, and It's a shame that it went the way of corporate corruption. It's unlikely that any browser is free from financial influence and corruption. Brave is willing to pay the user to view advertisements leading me to question their intent, and Waterfox is now backed by System1, a search engine, and data mining company. Firefox is my current daily driver browser. It works great for the most part and I was able to apply some reasonable security. For now this will work.

Finally got rid of Firefox on my desktop and installed Opera, I had been using it for the past year on my laptop but for whatever reason never switched over to it on my main computer.  Just couldn’t take the bloated bullshit that Firefox is these days, it’s a shame because in the beginning it was the best browser I had used.  Too bad it basically turned into Internet Explorer.
