The sounds of dodge balls, people and music could be heard throughout the Mohawk athletic center. Six different teams competed in the second annual “Duck Dodge Donate” dodge ball tournament to raise money for the Salvation Army. The students currently taking Police and Security here at Mohawk held the event. Each team brought ten dollars a player, five canned goods or clothing donations.
They chose dodge ball because it was fun way to have a fundraiser.
“It is really exciting everyone is having a fun time,” said Brendon Aasla, one of the organizers at the event. “Overall it is great for the community… everyone who came out enjoyed themselves and I think it is beneficial to our school,” he said.
The tournament was an elimination type competition, with the teams of ten playing each other to see who will move on to the next round. The final two teams who were left standing played each other for the championship.
Fred Armitage professor in the School of Justice Studies, said that he was happy see that event pick up right where it left off from last year.
“It came together for them, they organized it well and I am happy to see the turn out for them… it really adds to the success of the event,” said Armitage.
This event was an excellent opportunity to teach the students teamwork and operational planning. It also gave them the overall satisfaction of helping those in need, raising around 500 dollars.
