I imagine that my Sleeper is really protective of the reality of the AI on board of the station, because he knows that sapience is illegal for digital beings and he doesn't know how any of the people (who he trusts! more or less! at least some of them. no matter how much they might have betrayed him) will react to it. After all they're so strange about him, a Sleeper, and his consciousness was at least originally human, a long time ago, in a different body.
He doesn't like that he could hypothetically sell ship minds for a lot of credit. It feels too much like selling people. And he knows what it's like to be simultaneously a person and thing to be sold.
