♀: three names my muse might name their daughter…
Amos pressed his lips against the top of Ophelia’s head. She was drifting off to sleep, but his mind was still dancing with alcohol and thoughts of their future. Knowing she was too tired to comprehend what he was saying, he began listing off names he’d give their non-existent (and never existing) daughter…
“Desdemona, even though that’s a terrible name — we’d call her Dessie for short — because she’s another leading woman from Shakespeare… or maybe Isolde, because I heard it in a story once and thought it was pretty. Or perhaps Rebecca, because its simple, and just like Cedric the name shows up in Ivanhoe.”
