[He nodded against her before pulling back, feeling a bit less lost in his surroundings] Mind if we sit? Iâve been on my feet pretty much all day.
Of course. [She motioned to the couch.] Sit. Sit. Do you want a drink? I can make tea or cocoa. Or, weirdly, I have the ingredients for whiskey floats. Which could be just plain whiskey if you wanted.

I canât say that I would necessarily choose this option, but if it works for you⌠[she trails off.] Would you like me to hide with you so this doesnât look so weird?
Avoidance of uncomfortable situations is a specialty of mine. Itâs simply not a situation where we can be friends right now. So this is really the only option. [She shrugged, looking around as if to spot what was weird.] Â Weird is the least of my concerns, but youâre welcome to stay if you want.Â
Yeah, well. Youâd think I was stumbling around drunk or something, not late for work for all that was said about me being âirresponsibleâ. Guess itâs a good thing our schedules have been different lately. [He shook his head] A couple including yourself? Thatâs rough, Mir. I hope youâve been able to sleep off some of the stress since. Sometimes people take it a bit far.
They were waiting. I still wonât call it entirely my fault. I canât wait for this one, though. Ravenclaw and Slytherin, actually, but still a great opportunity, you know?
[Her nose wrinkled at his words.] Is everything okay with, Galvin? He rather sounds like heâs a giant grump, I know he was just worried, but even I know you better to think youâd be out after curfew intentionally. He should give you more credit. [She shrugged, sipping her water.] I only did what needed to be done. Though, I am certainly relieved that itâs over for now.Â
Probably best that itâs not Hufflepuff when I think about it. This way no one can say youâre anything but fair in your reffing abilities.Â

Good to know I have an ally. [He reached out and grabbed her hand, squeezing it lightly rather than letting her pull back completely] Least of my problems right now. You didnât mean it, and thereâs not a lot of safe options. Even if I donât know what happened, falling like that sucks in the long run. My legs took the worst of it, and then theyâre worried about yet another concussion. [He shrugged lopsidedly] Just one night in two years, and that was more the fault of chaos than anything. Iâd gotten used to it, too.
Always. [She smiled, shaking her head.] Not at all and no. Youâve managed to pretty much elimiate any safe zones at the moment. Once youâre awake more we can do some more pain management for you. I know youâre hard headed, but youâre too hard on your head. [She smiled, shaking her head] I like that ratio. Letâs go back to that after this...

Whatever it takes to stop the face tattoo madness. [He nodded and offered her silverware, setting the plate next to her.] Exceptionally flat cookies, just like I promised. Butter? Syrup? I can grab anything you want on âem.
Consider the idea tossed aside. [She smiled a little taking the silverware.] Cookies in any form are still cookies and therby excellent. Yes. And Please.Â

Wouldnât object to you not talking to him either. He might convince you I deserve another. [He reached up and stilled her hand, trying to keep from looking like sheâd hurt him] Still a bit sore there. We can definitely find somewhere better. [He raised an eyebrow curiously when she stopped herself] Something else? A whole new level? I know itâs bad, Mir. Some things about being laid up donât change, and the better people act around you, the worse it tends to be.Â
Right. Alright. Iâll be sure to plug my ears if he tries. A promise is a promise and this is a quidditch injury. [She pulled her hand back instantly at his words.] Iâm so sorry. I donât know what I was thinking. Iâm sorry. You fell a really long way. I donât know, itâs nothing. I just came down here to see you without actually looking at your char, and I never expected you to be so....so injured. [She whispered.] I wasnât there. Just the way Galvin described you falling. You feel so far. Youâll be fine, of course. I guess, I got too used to you not needing to spend days at the hospital.

Canât say Iâm complaining. Heard enough from Galvin already. [He relaxed back against the mattress at her urging, not wanting to push it] Wouldnât want that, would we, Healer Strout? I canât control when I wake up, but Iâll be the model patient from here on out and try not to end up in here again. Deal?
Well, then Iâll leave it to Galvin to be the bearer of all lectures this time. [She rubbed his shoulder a little when he laid back again.] No, we wouldnât. As much as I like spending time with you, we could certainly find better conditions. I thought Iâd already seen the worst you could manage, but this was.... [She made a face and switched directions with a smile.] That sounds like a deal Iâd be crazy to turn down.Â

thatonegudgeon:
Wasnât sure if itâd apply since this is my job âstead of playing. [He propped himself up awkwardly to try and watch her do her write but canât actually see anything] Glad to be awake and see you this round. Guess I was out a bit too long.
Perhaps. Since your job is quidditch, perhaps this is a gray area. [She touched his shoulder, shaking her head.] Donât push too hard, youâll injure yourself again and undo all the careful work thatâs been done on you. A bit too long might be the understatement of the century. Youâre on the mend now though, thatâs what matters.Â

[Already having woken up once, this time Davey finds himself blinking away a slightly more healthy sleep. Heâd been instantly bombarded by his family, Galvin especially intent on giving him a hard time what with thinking he had been trying to show off, before actually getting any semblance of an answer to âwhat happenedâ. Heâd fallen off his broom, that much was clear. What wasnât was how. They seemed ready to believe it was his mistake, and even with how fuzzy that day and the weeks before it were, that didnât feel right.
The only true confirmation had come with regards to his injuries. A few broken ribs and his shoulder almost healed. His legs and the ever tormented knee had collapsed when he hit the ground, breaking in enough places where they needed a bit more time to heal. His head was the main concern. Whiplash from being caught, impact with the ground, and a history of concussions putting him as a wildcard that needed to be watched pretty much constantly. All he wanted to do was sleep.
They let him with the promise of waking him up later for more checks, but when Davey opened his eyes, it wasnât the healer heâd talked to. He almost shut him again, but instead he groaned and stiffly moved to rub at his face.] Here to lecture me too?
I believe I promised not to lecture you about quidditch anymore. Iâm just here doing my job. [She shrugged as she made a note on the chart and then sat in the chair with a shrug.] Or someone elseâs really, but it seemed silly to have someone else check you when I was already here. I am glad to see you awake.

You have yet to disappoint. Iâd blindly trust you with anything by now.
Blind trust. Right. No pressure at all there.Â

You know if Iâm discouraging it, itâs probably a bad idea. [He pulled the pancakes off and set them on a plate before draining the noodles and turning back to her] Now. You hungry? Cause round one is up.
Truer words have never been spoken. [She eyed the food, still not certain that she had much of an appetite, but the fact that Davey had gone to so much trouble would ensure she ate it anyway.] Absolutely. Who would turn down pancakes. Especially ones that look so good.

I am sure it would be an excellent one at that. [He shrugged] Itâs never been my favorite, and what little I did have planned, I no longer have reason to follow through with.
I rather think the chocolate is the best part of it. [She raised an eyebrow curiously, but managed to restrain herself from getting too nosy.] No? Is everything alright?

So instead of just walking right past him you are going to hide from him like youâre two or something?
Thatâs pretty much my plan. [She shrugged, completely unphased by any judgement in Emmelineâs voice] My other option is to walk by and risk getting trapped in an awkward conversation or am forced to choose to be rude and ignore him. This is my preference. Heâll be gone in a minute. Â
Leap Year: 1995 - Open
[Miriam pushed out of the door to St. Mungoâs choosing to walk instead of apparate to her destination. Hoping to clear her mind a little. The time following holidays were the worst, seeing poor Neville come to the hospital to visit a mother and father who couldnât remember him. It broke her heart every time, watching him grow up from afar she felt as if each inch he grew marked off the times she had failed to find a solution. She remembered her youthful ideas of being able to make a difference. Somewhere in her mind she had been so determined to waltz into the long term ward when she got a chance and start to make a difference. Â
Then Alice and Frank had been brought in. She was like a soul possessed determined to prove she could handle the responsibility of the long-term ward. Sheâd become the youngest healer ever assigned to the ward. However, all these years later she understood why no one stayed this long. Nothing helped. Not her blind cheerfulness that no one even noticed or the research or new methods. She couldnât give up, she wanted to find some way to give Alice and Frank a second chance. Sheâd recently found little victories in helping Gilderoy regain the abilities that would be required of him to return to living independently. However, today sheâd felt it all crash around her. She should have had someone check the plant she knew she was terrible with plants, but it had been a gift and she was distracted. Now, she wasnât certain sheâd have a chance to help anyone at all. Too lost in her own thoughts  she didnât realize there was someone in her path until it was too late she was colliding with someone.] Iâm so, so sorry, I wasnât paying attention.
