▶▶️ Brody (I S2G IF YOU DO THE THING I WILL HRUT YOU)
In a life filled with daily divinites, with gods who stole your beer and goddesses who bitched about your lack of conditioner... it was sometimes easy to forget you were mortal. The reminders always hurt.
This one more than the rest.
The funeral had been as nice as it could be’ at least six pantheons had sent representatives and they were all, it seemed, genuinely sad. You even saw Hades when you stood up to give your eulogy, flanked by his twin attendants. but by the time you sat down again, Will’s mother’s hand clasped tightly in yours, he was gone. Important things to attend to, you thought bitterly. New souls to escort in. Will to escort in.
After was a whirlwind and you flew on autopilot. House to clean, gods to listen to apologize, human relatives to try to provide some comfort and reasoning to. “It was a car accident, Aunt Mary. I promise it was quick” It hadn’t been quick. It had been a hideously long fight and Brody had tried to patch up the wounds Media had inflicted for hours before the last gasp and shudder had driven your own soul out of your body.
The sound of your door clicking shut made you turn, in time to see Thanatos and Hypnos taking a seat on your couch... his couch... and eventually you find your voice again. “How’d you know I needed you?”
Their smiles match, pale Hypnos standing to reach out for your hand, “We always know where we’re needed. We’re gods.”
Thanatos frowned from the couch and stood next to his brother, shadow to light, eternity next to a brief pause, “We go where our King commands.... and also our queen.”
Your mind flashed back to the funeral. When she’d pulled you aside and kissed you deep and hard, iron-cold fingers grasping your cheeks, “nothing is ever truly lost, Healer. Remember the universal truths. My idiot cousin makes the sun rise in the east and set in the west, the tides ebb and flow, and I love you more than your puny language can say.”
Hypnos presses a kiss to your cheek and your eyes flicker shut as lips far too warm for who they belong to press themselves to your other cheek.
“Does it hurt?” You manage to murmur out as four hands lay you on the cool wood of the floor.
“Not compared to the pain of living without your brother.” One of them replies and as you fade out you can feel another hand on your shoulder,
“You fucking idiot what did you do?!”
It was good to be home where you belonged again.
