How many days had passed since King had disappeared? He’d lost track. Day one had come and gone and he had thought nothing of it, as it was King’s wont to meander off someplace for anywhere from half a day to an entire one. By day two concern had begun to set in, and he was on edge. Everyone could see it-- he was distracted, his replies were short, sharp; far less engaging. He wasn’t all there. It had only been two whole days and he was already far more irritable than his usual self.
But it was day three when the drinking started. If it was up to him, he would’ve set every member of the mob to abandon their duties and seek him out but that was an unrealistic endeavor. For one, he had many members respect and loyalty but they weren’t dogs at his heel, ready at any moment to sniff out a trail. For two, nobody knew where the fuck it was King had gone.
He had disappeared. Without a trace. And perhaps the only person there to console Davy while his nerves were on end, frequenting between sudden rampages and violent outbursts was Mad Dog.
An entire week had passed. An entire fucking week and Davy was convinced that King was dead. Not a word, not a trace, nobody had seen him. Not even Mad Dog could hunt him down.
And Davy? He was a bomb ticking, constantly. He could not focus, he could not think straight, see straight. He holed himself up in the office of the pub, drinking and smoking, consuming himself with as many narcotics as possible to get his mind off of it. Off of King. If it wasn’t for Vera holding up his slack, the mob’s dealings that particular week might as well have gone to shambles.
Day eight.
Eyes bloodshot and an unruly mess of hair, he reeked of a man with little remorse. He was a useless drunk, smelling of nothing but alcohol, items strewn about his office from numerous rampages. And that was only his office. The pub itself? The place was a mine zone of broken glass, and upturned tables. He’d all but scared every patron from his pub, and many hadn’t returned in the days since. If it wasn’t for Mad Dog diligently standing by, Davy would’ve burned the goddamn place down in a blind rage.
