Does that post you made about distrusting cops/people who want to be cops apply to people who are not from America and want to join police services that are not all about the straight up murder of innocent POC youth? Or are you being a typical US-centric SJ who ignores the fact that race issues are very different in other western countries. The UK police service is not perfect, but I want to be a part of it to try and change that.
if you think that racism is radically different in other parts of the world, then you're the ignorant one. racism exists everywhere, and institutions of power - cops, government, etc - are the biggest upholders and enforcers of racist policies and actions.
obviously, i'm only personally familiar with US cops, but if you think cops in england or canada or germany aren't also mostly racist scumbags, you need to take off your rose-colored glasses, pal
and if you think that you're going to be able to change a racist system that has been upheld for centuries by becoming a cop, you're being really naive. cops aren't going to change themselves because another cop says they should. cops are going to need to be FORCED to change, either by much stiffer punishments that are consistently enforced, or by policies like chest cams or any other number of things that are all over tumblr at the moment, which i'm too tired and lazy to link to because i just had my appendix removed
but good luck with changing an entire system of oppression by becoming a cop, anon
