Grocery list for optimizing Calcium + Gut health
Since I’ve been in remission, I’ve noticed that my bone health and gut health has not been the greatest. My BM’s are fine and there’s no trace of inflammation on my scopes or blood work, but I’ve definitely strayed from my diet protocol that allowed me to reach remission without medication. At one point I was taking many forms of probiotic supplements ( and it may have even played the greatest role in getting me into emission), but I’ve noticed that my teeth are still very brittle and I’ve developed allergies (triggering MAST cell activation) from things I was never allergic to prior to IBD.
I think the bottom line is I gotta remember that even though I am in remission and am healthy enough to function/be active and feel good- there is still a lot of healing left to do with my body systems. If i stray from my diet then I must continue to compensate for healthy gut bacteria, as well as address my calcium needs, especially being lactose intolerant.
My new grocery haul list. -kefir (x3 products) -*probiotic supplements and calcium/D/Magnesium supplements -chia seeds (bulk amount) -canned tuna x6 cans -Salmon that I can freeze when not cooking (x5 pieces or family pack) -Organic Bananas x3 bunches -Free range eggs -Frozen mangos -Spinach to freeze -Lettuce + olives -Bones for broth
Some of these items are pretty costly, but the amount I’ve been spending on food for the past 2 months will basically add up to the same total, just this time I am choosing items that will directly optimize my calcium and gut flora. Just gotta stick to it. I’m estimating this to be about $100 (not including the supplements) and lasting me about 2.5 weeks. This is only possible because I am not driving atm and don’t have to pay for insurance. Hopefully I can start making my own fermented products which are the most expensive items on the list and once spring comes around I can focus on growing enough salad ( bc lord knows how pricey that shit is in the north american market).
