It kind of makes sense that Jason would have to watch out for too much self indulgence, at least in certain things. He enjoys the good things in life. If not for moderation and self discipline, which his father taught, and his faith, he could have gone some bad places. His impulsivity and love for action could have devolved into some addictive, self destruction behaviors (it was thankfully channeled positively into being an agent early on)
So in extreme conditions, he might be tempted to something he wouldn't normally do, especially when he is crushed by outside forces yet still given some freedom. Never hurt someone innocent of course. But this does explain why he drinks himself into a hangover. I think he could descend into alcoholism to cope if he doesn't watch it.
