Validation

Sometimes I need validation that I am doing a good job.

Today I got that, and it feels good.

So, one of our consultants always e-mails me with positive comments about my week’s lessons/assessment data. But I never take it as a compliment. I always assume it’s just the nice thing she says to keep us motivated because that’s sorta like her job. I just assume she’s that kind to everyone.

But today was an in-person consult. I took a personal day for Peace Corps stuff, but I went in just for this consult because I have issues and don’t know how to take off a day properly.

Anyway, said consultant complimented me multiple times. In particular, she was impressed with my reading comprehension sentences because they also incorporate that week’s sight word vocabulary. She asked how long it usually takes to create meaningful sentences/paragraphs that integrate the vocabulary and aren’t completely contrived. I dare you all to try to use the word “age” meaning the age of a person, not like “bronze age” or something that doesn’t sound ridiculous.

She then took a copy of my work and is going to use it in her school-wide training next week. 

Oh, and despite requesting a special time to meet so that I could show up ON MY PERSONAL DAY, my supervisor failed to accompany me to this meeting. And I SWEAR, if my supervisor tries to take any credit for this, I will throw a fucking fit. Like, there are plenty of other people who can take credit. I run around the school asking for help. But ZERO times has my supervisor ever helped me. The one time I asked what ONE sign meant (after not asking about oh, another 500 or so words), she told me “well, you need to improve your ASL.”

AHAHAHA FUCK YOU.

My ASL isn’t perfect, but I get complimented all the time. Some random guy in North Carolina complimented my ASL and actually was really confused when he found out that I was hearing. My Deaf assistant thought I was a CODA. Again, I CAN ALWAYS IMPROVE and I always work to do so . . . but please don’t insult my ASL. I know I’m proficient.
