I love the trope because it offers a lot of potential. You've got the simple mistaken identities trope, secret identities, characters having identity crises because who they think they are might not be who they actually are.

My favorite thing is when this trope is viewed from an outsider's POV and no one is actually sure if the identity is false or not.

ARTHUR KINGSLEY IS MANY THINGS but a good man isn’t one of them. He has enough self-awareness to freely admit that and already reconciled with the prospect at the tender age of sixteen when he realized that he’d been born and raised in a den of paid assassins, thieves, drug dealers, and every other profitable criminal profession. And Arthur, by virtue of his own family, has committed his own mile-long list of sins (murder theft, ruining the reputation of entire families based on false rumors...just to name a few).
