Geez, watching my local news...2 hit and run driver events, deadly mountaineering accident, man takes woman hostage and is shot to death (the swat team is called), woman burned to death in a car fire, dogs have been found killed and skinned by some psycho.  And here I thought things were shit on the national scene.   

But hay, good news....despite deadly hurricane in Florida, the fake orange president made it to his Pennsylvania rally last night (so as not to disappoint his base supporters) and then hosted Kanye at the White House today.  Bonus: Kanye uses term “motherfucker” in front of the media in the Oval Office and then proceeds to slam his fists on the historic and venerated presidential desk. 

I am happy to report though, we are having unbelievably beautiful warm and sunny weather and it’s October 11.   Cheers!

It's Stupid O'clock Somewhere

A writer who frequently visits our Chicago store once told me that he'd been a heavy drinker when he was younger. He recalled days spent in bars, justifying each round of drinks: "It's five o'clock somewhere."

I thought of this when I heard someone describe the political success of a certain tiny-fingered orange buffoon as "unthinkable."

Unthinkable: It is unthinkable that a country would elect such a man, unthinkable that his flagrant ignorance and breathtaking dishonesty would be deemed irrelevant.

But of course, it isn't unthinkable at all. It happens constantly, all over the world. Why should America be any different? History is full of despots and would-be despots, hateful simpletons, and dangerous clowns who have inexplicably ascended to the positions of power. Ignorance and inattention circle the globe, alighting in different countries, seemingly at random. It's always stupid o'clock somewhere.

I am dreadfully old, and I've seen this many times before. I have seen it often enough that I can summarize the appropriate action in a single word:

Resist.
