I go through spells of deciding that having relatively normal thoughts makes me a terrible person, so life advice from random korfers is always welcome! You have made me feel a hell of a lot better today, thank you :)
A few from the Leeds - Edinburgh Superweekend a couple of weeks back!
Saturday: Leeds Tournament.
The Otley Run was glorious. By the time that we arrived on the Friday, the other clubs were about three quarters of the way through, and absolutely HAMMERED.
Lesson learnt: do NOT try to keep up with students. Despite being in terrible shape the night before (the guy who we crashed with couldn't even set his alarm), they all woke up fresh as a daisy for game day. Must have been like a normal Tuesday night for them.
We, on the other hand, were in poor, poor form, but it turns out that us Northerners play better when we're hungover. A lot better, actually. I think that because we were focusing so hard on not vomiting all over the court, the rest just clicked naturally.
There was one game where we beat the team that is favoured to win Nationals this year. We played off each other beautifully, didn't think about anything...it just worked. Even our president, who always has something to say, couldn't fault a single thing. That was the best team connection that I have ever felt ever, including netball and hockey at school. There was nothing like it.
Oh, and sleeping on student floors was painful, but a laugh. We probably only had about two hours of sleep max, as we were all just drunkenly nattering away like a middle school sleepover. At one point, Lee rolled off the couch onto the floor where four of us were lying, and we all scrambled up and just punched the absolute shit out of him. It's not often that you get to do that.
OH, AND I MET ADAM! One of the korfers who I played down in Bristol with! I now play for Storm, he now plays for Leeds, and we went MENTAL when we saw each other.
Sunday: Saint Andrews - Storm - Ed Uni League Games.
Remind me to never sign up for a league game the day after a tournament, EVER AGAIN. That shit was painful, and downright exhausting. We were still on form from Leeds though, and won both of our matches. Undefeated!
I ALSO SCORED MY FIRST TWO GOALS OF THE SEASON! WOO STATS
Oh, and I also met Beadle! Kind of. We were marking each other during the Saints game, but I was far too afraid to just yell out a URL that we stuck to korfball chat.
Ed Uni and Saints are probably my favourite teams in the league to play, all of their players are so lovely. I just wish that we lived closer to each other, we would have some really fun socials!
It was one of those weekends that reminded me about why I fell in love with korfball in the first place. I was tired, sweaty, and in pain, but I had the biggest grin on my face the entire time.
