Tubeless Tire Install For the Win! • 7/1/17
OK, I think I'm getting better at this tubeless tire mounting thing:
1) Fresh Orange seal tape adheres best to carbon rim when you clean the rim first with denatured alcohol using a clean rag or paper towel. The alcohol wipes that come with the tape just don't work.
2) Then, apply the tape and press it down and smooth it out using a clean dry rag.
3) Spray down the tire beads with soapy water from a spray bottle and fit to rim. The soapy water should both make it much easier to get the tire on the rim, and for the beads to seat.
4) Remove the valve core, and inflate. Beads seated easily for me with a hand pump, but your mileage may vary. The snapping sounds the beads make when they seat are startling the first time, but very satisfying from there on.
5) Next, inject sealant through now-coreless valve stem, and replace valve stem core.
6) Hold wheel horizontally and shake it to distribute sealant, flip it over and repeat. Let sit on bucket for 15 minutes to seal edges, turn it over for another 15 minutes. Or, if you don't have time, go for a ride--the sealant will distribute itself.
