REGAINING MY WEEB TITLE #3
So my girlfriend REALLY wanted me to watch/read Houseki no Kuni (Land of the Lustrous) and I have to admit even though the first season is incredibly slow with barely anything happening in it, the manga is not to be slept on. The amount of development and tragedy our main character faces I would argue is on par with Eren Yeagar. I really want to talk about the manga, but I’ll try to keep myself to just the anime. The studio that produced this was Orange studios, notoriously known for their work in Beastars. Apparently this was their first project and even for their first, the amount of detail and color blew me away. I mean these people are meant to be made entirely of gems and they look ACTUALLY like gems, sure the movement is a bit...choppy to say the least, but every character was so beautiful to look at. However speaking of characters that was great to look at, the main character of the story Phosphophyllite has such rapid and tragic growth, and the story makes note of this towards the end.
“Its strange thinking back to my spoiled self, following simple hunches, I’m jealous of my old self...” During the first season of Houseki no Kuni we are able to witness this once timid and naïve youth go about their days without a care in the world, only to eventually steel herself towards the quest for the truth and the cruel fate of her people, after witnessing her friends die multiple times. Even beginning to question the father like figure they all cherish so dearly without question, even if they are all aware that he may be hiding something from them, however Phos rejects the status qou and continues to search for the truth even if she has to betray their father figure in the process. I would highly recommend reading the manga If you would be interested in watching my more in depth analysis of other anime feel free to visit my YouTube channel! https://www.youtube.com/c/LeoVoid
