"Bitch Better Have My Money" Is Not Too Violent or Too Sexist - It's Just Too Obvious

It's been a week since Rihanna released the video for “Bitch Better Have My Money”, and now that we've weathered the first storm of think pieces trying to decide whether it’s problematic or sexist.

The video is spectacularly violent and features Rihanna and her girl gang kidnapping the shit out of some woman and placing her in loads of abusive situations. At the end of the video we discover she's the wife of "the accountant", some gross guy who’s rinsing all of badgalriri’s money on grade A booze and escorts. The wife's life appears to be spared while he is brutally murdered with an array of things you could purchase from B&Q.

How to Win a Karaoke Contest: Tips-01

Practice singing.

No matter what else you do, it’s important to be able to carry a tune and sing on pitch. While you need not be the "best" singer at the competition, and you certainly don’t need to be professionally trained, those things won’t hurt you.

Karaoke contests are usually judged on some combination of vocal ability, audience response, and stage presence, but if you can nail the singing part, the judges may give you some leeway on other aspects of your performance. The best way to practice karaoke is to sing karaoke.

Things you can do to improve your singing voice

Whether you’re singing Happy Birthday to someone at the office or singing along with the radio in your car, it never hurts to try to sound a bit better.

Practice your posture and your breathing daily so that it becomes natural to you. 

Learn the lyrics and melody of the songs you sing so well that they seem they could have been written for you. 

Learn the music so well that you could sing the song in any key, with any musical accompaniment or a cappella.

When you are singing or practicing, if you start to feel pain in your throat, neck or head, stop immediately.

Singing should not hurt and any pain that you experience when singing will mean that your muscles are tired or that you are straining for something you are not ready for.

Stop singing, take a break, relax and try again later.

All of that said, the best way to improve your singing voice is to sing!

Stock the fridge and cupboards full of drinks and snacks (don’t forget the water - always a good thing for singers).

Browse the songs and prepare a list of song suggestions/artist names that your friends might like, add these to your Favorites.

Dig out hats, sunglasses, wigs, and other costumes or props that will help your guests take their performances to the next level (or ask your friends to bring their own when you send out the invitation).
