Instrument Stereotypes: Violin
Because the violin is such a common instrument, there’s extremely intense competition for landing a spot playing first part. There are always people on second that really deserve first, and vice versa. Violinists are notorious for being the cockiest above all other musicians in the orchestra and are naturals when it comes to poking fun and insulting other string players (they even do it to each other in their own section). Their prime victims are the violists, and you’d also be hard-pressed to find any instrument group that worships the violin.
Creates extremely high-pitched, squeaky sounds
Outrageously expensive for a fragile instrument that is constantly susceptible to breaking down
First violins always get the most difficult parts in the orchestra
Assumptions frequently made about instrument:
It’s much easier to play than wind instruments since all you do is “saw”.
If so many kids can play it well, how on earth could be that hard?
