Recently I have been reaching out to Loki, but I did not felt like I was connecting. I feel a very strong connection to Loki through readings and research so I wanted to try reaching out. However, I have not had the same experiences others seem to when meditating or other forms of devotion. Tonight one of my candles on his alter began to flicker and wave while I was speaking. Do you think this is a sign or is it hopeful wishing on my part? Any advice would be a blessing.
Welcome!
For starters, I’d like to point out that the comparisons you’ve been making may not be entirely fair. The fact that you have a strong connection to Loki through readings is already more communication than the majority of devotees get. A lot of the conversations posted on social media actually took place as readings and were then “translated” into a back and forth dialogue by the reader. I’m not sure I agree with the practice due to the unrealistic expectations it creates in newcomers, but it’s something many diviners will openly admit to when asked about it.
Even people who do sometimes get visions with full blown face to face conversations with dialogue don’t get that all the time, and have to use special techniques or intoxicating substances to get there. You're seeing people’s highlight reels, not their whole practice, and you can’t expect to be in the same place as someone who’s been practicing for years when you’re first starting out.
In terms of the candle thing, I’d recommend doing a reading about it since divination seems to work pretty well for you. I’ll be honest and sat that my personal inclinations would lean toward it not being a sign, since flickering candles is a common occurrence with a ton of mundane causes, but then, I don’t know the whole context and I probably don’t have the same exact standards for what counts as “proof.”
Our discernment tag might be helpful in analyzing situations like this when they come up in the future.
