Had a really wonderful little "walk" down at the Austin Botanical Gardens yesterday. They have a great wheelchair path & it was nice getting to spend some time among trees & growing things. Jake even took me "off-roading" so I could see the non-accessible waterfall area in the oriental gardens. He's my superhero & I'm surprised by how well my chair did over the rocks. At one point, he & my MIL helped me onto a bench in the shade so I could listen to the creek & relax a little. It's been hard accepting my dependence on these wheels, but I'm working on not letting it define me or limit me in where I can go. This month marks 7 months that I've been using my Nomad to get around & only now am I finally started to feel grateful & even a little love for the freedom it has given me. I still don't leave the house much, but when I do, I'm glad I have my trusty wheels to keep me going. It won't be forever. I will work hard to regain my old mobility.
