Gorée Island... a reality check. People love to travel and curate all the beautiful things but not give context or share the reality. The last month traveling through Afraka hasn't been a "vacation" it's truly been a #GreatBlackWisdomGathering If you're not familiar, Gorée is an island right off Dakar known for being a memorial to the transatlantic trafficking of enslaved Afrakans. The so-called "house of slaves" is the oldest house on the island where they underestimate the conditions that Afrakan people were kept in during one of the most gruesome periods of human story.... it's a tourist attraction. I was disgusted by the lack of respect for such a sacred place that is able to bring so much healing to us. Instead of reverence and respect, we experience European tourists laughing and mocking, and folks just treating it like a circus. It was literally disgusting! You can imagine it took a lot not to smack the shit out of someone as they pass you cackling on their phone in a place where so many souls were taken, raped, beaten, thrown into the water - sometimes even by choice. It's equally hard not to steal on the locals who jumps in your face trying to sell everyone overpriced shit as soon as you walk out the door. RETROGRADE was what came to my spirit. We're going backward in so many ways. We have to see it and acknowledge it so we can finally learn! This is part of the reason why we still have slavery today, literally! But don't let Libya fool you, WHO OF US IS FREE???? Afrakan people worldwide no matter where we are born or what complexion we are need to wise up to the ways of Rome... unity for one, but for NTR sake PUT SOME RESPECT ON OUR NAMES, ON OUR CULTURE, ON OUR ANCESTORS! They are angry with us! If we had avenged them would we literally be in shackles and chains in 2017? More in depth express soon, but we're going backward and I really have to trust it's only to push us forward... our children must create a better way. We will lead the way. ASHE!
