Author's Note: I usually write the reader as part of some random rookie group, a new thing yk 😭, so writing this with an actual well-known idol group setup felt new for me. But I tried my best with it, and I really hope you enjoy it

“Don’t laugh.”
The second Seonghyeon said that through your earpiece backstage, you already knew something stupid was about to happen.
You kept your expression neutral while standing beside your group during the music show interview. Across the stage, CORTIS waited for their turn while cameras moved around nonstop.
“Why would I laugh?” you whispered under your breath, pretending to fix your mic.
“Just don’t look at me.”
Too late.
You looked.
And immediately had to bite the inside of your cheek to stop yourself from losing it on live television.
Seonghyeon’s in-ear monitor was hanging halfway down his shirt collar for absolutely no reason.
Not only that — his stylists had somehow clipped part of his mic pack onto the back of his jacket wrong, making it stick out awkwardly every time he moved.
He looked ridiculous.
The worst part?
He knew it.
From across the stage, Seonghyeon stared at you with the most serious expression imaginable while subtly shaking his head.
Don’t.
That only made it worse.
You looked away immediately before your smile became obvious.
Beside him, Martin noticed.
Then looked between both of you suspiciously.
Oh no.
You straightened instantly while the MC continued talking in front of the cameras.
Your phone buzzed in your pocket.

You almost choked.
Quickly, you typed back beneath the cue cards in your hands.

Across the stage, Seonghyeon physically closed his eyes in disappointment.
Juhoon noticed this interaction too.
Now three CORTIS members were staring at him.
“You’re smiling,” your member whispered beside you.
“No I’m not.”
“You literally are.”
You forced your expression straight again just as the camera swung toward your side of the stage.
Professional.
Calm.
Completely normal.
Until Seonghyeon’s jacket shifted again.
You saw the stupid mic pack.
And accidentally snorted into your microphone.
The sound echoed louder than expected.
For half a second, the entire stage went silent.
Your eyes widened instantly.
Across from you, Seonghyeon looked genuinely devastated.
Martin folded in half laughing immediately.
Even the MC looked confused. You could feel Yoonchae staring into your soul. Manon was trying not to laugh too, your suffering was their happiness lol, typical besties shit 😭💅
You covered it quickly by pretending to cough, but the damage was done.
Your phone buzzed again.

You bit back another laugh.
Ten minutes later, both groups ended up backstage waiting for prerecording.
The second staff disappeared around the corner, Seonghyeon walked toward you with betrayal written all over his face.
“You embarrassed me publicly.”
“You looked silly.”
“You snorted into the microphone.”
“You threatened to break up with me over an earpiece.”
“That was emotional stress.”
You laughed while he glared dramatically.
Then he got closer.
Too close.
“You’re still laughing.”
“Because your stylist hates you.”
“My own girlfriend turned against me on national television.”
“Your own girlfriend tried VERY hard.”
Seonghyeon sighed heavily before leaning down closer to your ear.
“You know Martin won’t stop talking about this now.”
As if summoned by dark magic—
“OHHHHH,” Martin yelled from across the hallway. “So NOW she’s your girlfriend?”
Both of you froze.
Silence.
Then:
“…You heard that?” Seonghyeon asked slowly.
Martin looked deeply offended.
“You were standing two feet away.”
Juhoon nearly collapsed laughing against the wall while Seonghyeon physically covered his face with one hand.
You stared at him.
“…Wow.”
“This is your fault somehow.”
“My fault?!” You were hella offended lol.
“You made me emotionally vulnerable.”
“That sentence means nothing.”
Martin immediately pulled out his phone. “Wait till the group chat hears this.”
Seonghyeon pointed at him instantly. “If this leaks, I’m killing you first.”
“You already soft-launched yourselves on live TV.”
“We did not.”
“You looked at her like she pays your bills.”
You burst into laughter again while Seonghyeon groaned dramatically beside you.
Then quietly, only for you:
“You’re still pretty when you laugh at me.”
Your face warmed instantly.
Unfortunately, Martin saw that too.
“Oh my god,” he sighed. “You guys are actually disgusting.”
