Except for Anew Returner, who is biologically female, none of the Innovades have a biological sex, and few of them seem very interested in identifying with a specific gender. There’s certainly some gender indicators used around them--pronouns in English, gendered forms of “I” in Japanese--but they ultimately seem pretty happy with their ambiguity and at least some of their lines directed at Anew can be read as disgust at the fact that she has a biological sex rather than as sexism against females.

Thanks for the info! I’ve watched the anime twice in a row but this never occurred to me at all. �� Guess I just didn’t pick it up.

To be fair, the fact that Innovades don’t have a biological gender is mostly just implied in the anime. It’s only really made clear in the supplementary materials (fanbooks & that sort of thing). I had an adventure trying to figure out what exactly was going on with Tieria, myself--I’ve got a Tieria’s gender tag, if you wanna see my attempts to track down info.
