she shouldn’t be smiling, shouldn’t even imply she is finding this amusing but arizona can’t help it. patiently does she listen to the other’s rant about the woman who had clearly been flirting with arizona. but the blonde hadn’t been interested, why would she? she had an ortho goddess right beside her. so she lets her rand until she’s done and the ped surgeon has the chance to speak. “you have absolutely no reason to be jealous. ”

ARIZONA.     “ don’t talk about yourself like that . ”      @orthorres​

eyes are watery, she doesn’t look up at callie just yet. in this very moment, arizona feels like the the most useless person in the world and she knows it is stupid but she can’t help it.  “callie, i’m a mess. i can’t do anything on my own.” things haven’t been great ever since she lost her leg. the things she loved to do, and did with ease, were terribly hard and exhausting now. the rational part of her brain knows it takes time to get used to it, that this is her healing process, but the other part fears things will never be okay again. she can’t even take proper care of sofia on her own. arizona looked up, tears running down her cheek as soon as she met callie’s gaze. and she leans forward, seeking comfort in her embrace. she wants to believe her, she really does, but it seems so impossible.

there had been so much pain between them, mostly caused by her. and yet, for some reason she couldn’t quite understand, callie still loved her despite everything. arizona had messed things up, badly, she couldn’t even try to justify any of it. but not once had she stopped loving the other woman, she was everything. and while they finally had reached the point where they could be friends, arizona longed for more but was afraid their relationship is still too fragile. unable to stop herself, arizona moves a little closer to callie, hand reaching out to be placed against the other woman’s cheek. chills ran down her back. “i never stopped loving you either. i missed you.” each day, every second, even when she didn’t know it. a frightening thought to care so much for another person, but it didn’t scare her.

smile crosses soft features, familiar dimples appearing on her face as well. soft lips kiss along callie’s neck as she holds her close. home ... it’s been the one word she’s associated with callie for longer than she would like to admit. but the other woman probably knows it anyway; it isn’t like arizona tried to hide it. “eres mi amor.” she breathes against her skin, hands skimming over the other woman’s body. “eres mi vida.” another kiss follows, smile a little brighter. “eres mi todo.” a few more kisses are placed along her neck and up her jaw, blue eyes looking into dark ones before she presses her lips against callie’s, claiming them in a loving kiss. she doesn’t speak spanish very often, rather enjoys it when callie does it (it could drive her insane at times). but every now and then, she does it anyway, for her, showing her how deeply she cares. “te amo, calliope.”

as easy as things would be if she just let go of all this,  if she tried to forget about callie,  she knows she's right.  everything had changed and lola knows exactly what comes with this,  another judicial review that she didn't but she couldn't stand the pain she saw in the other woman's eyes.   ❛  callie.  ❜  she managed,  taking a step closer to her,  a hand finding the curve of her cheek.   ❛  you have no idea how much i wish things were different,  what i would give to have this with you when people are looking.  ❜   when they don't have to find a private room just to talk like this,  a sigh escapes her lips,  she knows she's already in deeper than she should have been with how close she is.   ❛  i wish i could give you what you wanted,  but you deserve someone that doesn’t make you hide. ❜

but the thing was she did,  in a way that she wished she didn’t because she was willing to throw all rational thought out the window for her and she couldn’t afford to do that.  if anyone found out how they met or remembered it,  lola’s life would be a living hell and palmer would never let her live it down.   ❛  but i do,  i love you,  callie.  to the point that it scares me because you deserve more than i can give you right now.  ❜   callie was someone she was proud to have at a side and callie deserved to be brought into the light beside her,  but she knew the risk was too high.   ❛  it scares me because i want to tell them that i could tell them and they could retry your case and they could take me from my place.  ❜
