The photographer says: "...The sun just peered over a ridge in front of me making this interesting contrast of front-lit steam and dark lava. "The lava was actually flowing over thick snow. The lowest layer of lava quickly cooled down isolating the hot lava inside. Asd the lava field slowly melted the snow underneath it constantly released steam through it."
