Fernanda Torres, Os Normais
Rodrigo Santoro e Fernanda Torres em ‘Os Normais’, 2001
"Don't get me started, there was this one time I reincarnated as a lesbian, guys, it was awful. I suffered so much. I cried a lot. So much love, you know?"
Fernanda Torres as Vani in Os Normais | 03×12: As Outras Vidas de Rui
My good people of the internet, I present you the nomenees for the Golden Globe's "Best Motion Picture – Non-English Language" leading actress and actor from "I'm still here" and "Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Motion Picture – Drama" Fernanda Torres
Disclaimer: this is not from the movie, this a 20yo clip from a tv series they did together .
VAI BRASIL!!
DO YOU KNOW THE FERNANDAS?
Fernanda Torres won the latest Golden Globes Award for Best Actress in Drama Film, but how many outside Brazil actually know her?
“and of course I want to dedicate it to my mother, you have no idea, she was here 25 years ago”
Before talking about her, I want to talk about her mother, Fernanda Montenegro. She was the first ever brazillian actress to be nominated to a Golden Globe and also The Oscars (then Academy Awards) in 1999 for the movie Central Station. Even though that's not my personal favourite of Fernanda Montenegro's performances, she was absolutely amazing. Unfortunately, the world wasn't ready to receive an latin-american actress back then and she didn't get any of these awards. However, for us brazillians she don't need any international award to be a winner in our hearts. We have Fernanda Montenegro, we know she is brilliant, and the world also got the privilege to know her. As Central Station is to this day the second most viewed brazillian movie outside Brazil. Back then Central Station won for Best Foreign Language Film at the Golden Globes, and brazillians were so proud for our cinema and for Fernanda.
Meanwhile Fernanda Torres, her daughter, was pacing her own track as an young brazillian actress. She became even more popular as a comedian actress in the role of Vani in the TV show Os Normais (translation The Normal Ones), a series about a couple that reflected many of the situational dilemas of young adults couples at the time. The show was a hit and even got not just one, but two films for cinema. And this is one of many of Fernanda Torres ramarkable performances. We adore and admire her so much, Fernanda Torres is Brazil's sweetheart, and her nomination to the Golden Globes got us all euphoric. Now the world also gets to know this amazing actress that we were already convinced of the talent. An latin-american woman wins a well deserved prize for Best Actress in Drama Film among other so much talented and worldwide known actress. I'm Still Here is a sensitive and so important movie that shows the the reality of a family whom had a loved one randomly taken away by the military during the dictatorship. A movie that reveals the absence, the weirdness and emptyness of a home, a family expecting the return of father they don't even know it's deceased. Fernanda Torres's victory fills my eyes with tears, hope and expectations as a brazillian actor myself.
Fernanda Torres poderia interpretar as personagens das demais indicadas ao prêmio, mas nenhuma delas poderia interpretar a Vani de Os Normais ou Fátima de Tapas e Beijos.
Have you seen Normal People (2001-2003)?
Yes
Partially
No, but I've heard of it
