I've had a Jewish zionist on this website accuse my German great-grandfather of being a Nazi due to being a German who immigrated to Brazil.

My great-grandpa who immigrated to Brazil... in the 1800s. As a baby. Because his dad was against the unification of Germany.

Like, my great-grandpa was definitely racist. According to my mom, he refused to recognize the adopted daughter of one of my mom's cousins because she was Black (Him marrying someone who was part Indigenous was apparently fine, but an adopted Black great-niece was evidently where he drew the line? Racists make no sense).

But racist and Nazi are far from interchangeable terms. All Nazis are racists, but not all racists are Nazis.

My grandmother was part of the war effort AGAINST the Nazis. She helped collect scrap metal and make clothing for Allied soldiers.

It's ironic that the zionist told me to go back to where I came from, because I'm also Indigenous Brazilian (Nambikwara) from the very same side of the family that I have my German heritage.

For context, for non-Brazilians, a good chunk of Brazilians are part-Indigenous but don't know from what tribe, because it was considered the embarrassing, dirty little family secret that no one talked about. Also about the secrecy about "what type of german your ancestor were". A little tale from my family. My grandpa fled Austria in late 1930s with his mom. They managed to stay in Brazil because my grand-grandma got a job offering as a language teacher in a CATHOLIC school.

Later on my grandpa married a CATHOLIC Brazilian woman (my grandma), he raised his kids as catholics. Every cerimony, everything catholic.

Talking about the war, or what his life before Brazil was seeing as taboo in the family, so it led many thinking he might have been a mustache man sympathizer and it was always kinda a silent worry.

Fast forward to 2020... my grandpa has been dead for over 30 years, I started making a family tree. With all the documentation and information I gathered I discovered that he was a jewish man, my grandgrandma was a jewish woman. When I asked around, my older aunt said that she was the only one who knew that and was going to take the info to her grave, because that what my grandpa did. Later on in my research + talking with my aunt I found out that on his father side, every single aunt/uncle and cousin of his died in the holocaust, and that was the main reason he never went back to Austria. So maybe, if someone's family doesnt talk about their german ancestor, it's not because they were bad... maybe they were just that badly traumatized.
