If we're talking about his personality, then his ego is pretty much based on a fear of being rejected or thought of as less than others, so he sort of builds this charismatic and arrogant persona around himself. Probably, this "self-love" thing shows up in little things, like how he dyes his hair dark gray to cover up his gray hairs. His hair used to be that dark when he was younger.
