It had been years since Clary had actually smoked, he had given it up in a quest to better his health. He wanted a long and happy life with Jameson and that was the first step. Today was a special occassion though and Acacio and Clary had snuck out after the ceremony to smoke some cigars. Their families had been joined in the best of ways. Today was the day that Artie and Estee had gotten married. Acacio, Jameson, Zelda and Clary had watched their two children become friends and grow into something closer. They could remember when they had gone to the spring dance together, the time they had gotten caught skinny dipping when drunk and when Estee came to ask Clary and James's permission to marry Artie... like they would ever say no.
"Clarence Gethin Finn! Are you smoking?" A voice called out behind him. He coughed and spluttered, turning to see Jameson standing with his hands on his hips. Like a kid that had been caught, Clary hid the cigar behind his back and tried to look innocent but he wasn't fooling Jameson.
At the age of 59, it was impossible for Clary to fool him. They were coming up to their thirtieth wedding anniversary and they knew every single little thing about each other. "But James... it's a special occassion. Our baby boy got married!" Clary hoped he sounded convincing.
Jameson did the only thing he could do and shook his head with mock disappointment. "Put it out, bumblebee. It's time to dance." he said, holding his hand out to Clary.
In all the years that Clary and Jameson had been married he had never denied James a dance. Dropping the cigar to the ground, he made sure it was out before he accepted James's hand and followed him inside. "You know you think I'm hot when I smoke, I haven't forgotten." he pointed out. He only received a poke in response that caused him to chuckle.
The hall had been decorated beautifully for the couple. Everything was in autumn colours to comply with the season. The red and orange lanterns set a soft glow of light throughout the hall. In the centre was Artie and Estree, laughing and dancing together and surrounded by family and friends. Clary wished his ma were alive to see it. Both of them had passed but Clary was happy to have his brothers present for the wedding.
Clary carefully spun Jameson under his arm as they came together on the dance floor and spun around slowly. They waltzed together, swaying in time to a song that Clary couldn't remember the name of. Everything else faded away, all Clary could see was Jameson. It was the same every time they had danced and never in their thirty years had it been any different.
The all consuming love he had felt for Jameson had never changed, never lessened. It was still just as intense and looking into the blue sparkling eyes only reminded Clary once again how much he loved him. They had gotten older, Clary had gotten a lot greyer and they had both gotten wrinkles. Clary was happy to say that most of the lines that marked their faces were happy ones from big smiles and lots of laughing.
Clary looked over Jameson's shoulder, taking in the crowd. There was family and friends that were family. He could see Melody playing poker with her cousins and wiping the floor with them. Lucas was drinking and flirting with every girl in sight. Johanna looked happy, even if she'd been forced into coming. Laurel and Titus, surrounded by their children and grand kids, were dancing slowly together around the room. Clary was happy. He was truly happy. He had lived the life he had always wanted but he wasn't done living it yet.
Leaning back far enough to see Jameson's eyes, Clary leaned down and kissed him quickly. "I love you, sunshine."
Jameson's smile grew to match his own. "I love you too, bumblebee."
