outside lands 2013, what a fuckin weekend
ok so my friend brenna and i decided that it would be smarter to stay in the city for the weekend for the festival so we bunked with my grandma at her loft.
so morning of day one; around 6am i woke up, fell out of bed and dragged a comb across my head (sry day one is paul day) aha after getting ready we grabbed breakfast at the whole foods across the street and made our way towards muni/ the festival. after waiting about 2 hours in line outside of the festival they started letting us in and i swear, the rush of anxiety nearly put my down! once the lady checked my bag and let me, i looked back and gave brenna a nod before sprinting a quarter of a mile towards the barrier. after claiming our spot i went out to use the bathroom and get food and water blah blah blah
the bands that played at the lands end stage (main stage) were p great (smith westerns, surfer blood, band of horses, the national)
oh holy jesus; before band of horses went on some chick about 10 feet away from me got wayyyyyyy to wasted and took way too many drugs vomited everywhere and caused this huge ass scene that lasted 10 minuets. omfg and while everyone was dealing with her and trying to get her out i saw some of the guys from band of horses walk out and just turn back around cause they saw what was going down and were all like 'hell nah'
lol after all that band of horses went on and played an amazing set, everyone in the band looked so happy and it just made it awesome. after them, the national came on and matt (the frontman) looked super classy with his suit and vest. honestly dressed to the nines. they played, matt drank a lot and got a bit sloppy and jumped into the crowd and surfed which caused the worst wave of people/ pressure onto my group and nearly knocked us down.
oh lordy after all that the intermission for sir paul mccartney graced us. you could literally feel everyone's excitement. i was talking to this lady the entire time and she was a really cool and shared a lotta stories about how when she was a girl, about my age, she'd collect a ton of beatles memorabilia and how in love she was with paul and how i wouldnt understand (erm excuse me haha)
5 minuets before paul came on all i could think is how unreal all of it was, the legend of all legends is gonna be right in front of my eyes, not even 15ft away, howw!!?1 ahh and then he walked out!!! he started playing the first few chords of eight days a week and i just ughhh i nearly died.aw and throughout the gig he payed tribute to hendrix, george, john, and linda.
lol he mentioned pot quite a few times too "It’s a strange smell I’m smelling," "Something wonderful." hehe
the 3 hour set went by so quickly!! the feeling of being apart of that crowd will be something i'll never ever forget. im not even going to go into depth in to individual songs cause it was all fucking beautiful and it'll make this already long as heck post longer aha ooo but during live and let die the pyros went off and i swear to god i though my eyebrows singed off omg ugh i just it was soo good
paul ended with this mash of helter skelter/ golden slumbers/ carry that weight/ and the end with confetti, it was perfect man. so frickin perfect.
day one was definitely one of the most memorable nights of my life
