10 Books/Series that had an impact on you
I was tagged by agaispusreads, so thanks!!
The rules are to list (in no particular order) 10 books/series that impacted your life somehow, then tag 10 people to do the tag!
1. Black Beauty by Anna Sewell I picked up a copy of this at a carboot for 50p when I was about 4 on a holiday with my grandparents. It remained my favourite childhood book, and I read it COUNTLESS times whilst at boarding school! Weirdly, I still hate horses.
2. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl I watched the (old) version of this film as a child and became fascinated with all of Roald Dahl’s books, specifically Matilda and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. It was so different from any other book I had read as a child, I loved the craziness!
3. Harry Potter series by J.K.Rowling RAVENCLAW PRIDE FOREVER. I will always (as basically everyone else) have massive love for the Harry Potter series. This wasn’t the series that got me into reading, but I have such fond memories of reading these books for the first time and that’ll always stay with me. My strongest memory of reading a book as a child in fact, was reading the graveyard scene in The Goblet of Fire (my favourite Harry Potter book by the way...) on the ferry back from a holiday in France at 11pm with all my family asleep. I was so scared!
4. The Hunger Games Trilogy by Suzanne Collins THIS was the series that got me back into reading. The summer of my last year at school my parents went on holiday for a week and left me at home with my nan. I was REALLY bored, and decided on a whim to buy some books as I hadn’t read anything in 2 years since the Twilight series died off. I found the Hunger Games, liked the premise, and bought the trilogy. I was absolutely hooked, to the extent I don’t think I will ever enjoy reading a book as much as I enjoyed reading ‘Catching Fire’ for the first time! So thanks Suzanne Collins, you caused this madness... Mainly due to Peeta Mellark who I may never fully get over.
5. Ready Player One by Ernest Cline I only read this book a month ago but I became OBSESSED with it. This is probably my ideal book, I love the quest-like aspects, dystopian atmosphere, the 80′s pop culture references (especially from video games) and I love the strong female characters. READ THIS BOOK.
6. The Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare This was the series that possibly cemented my love of YA literature. I couldn’t even explain my all consuming love for these books, but it might have something to do with Alec Lightwood, Gabriel Lightwood or Jem Carstairs...
7. The Shatter Me Series by Tahereh Mafi This just proves books can be poetic, and an art form. But mostly, it proves that Aaron Warner is possibly my favourite book character of all time.
8. To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han To be honest, this also includes ‘P.S. I Still Love You’ and ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ series. Jenny Han was the author that showed me I could get just as blown away with YA contemporaries as I could with YA high fantasy.
9. Wild Swans by Jung Chang The best autobiographical novel I have ever read. Hands Down.
10. Wonder by R.J. Palacio Showing that middle-grade books can have just as deeper meanings and questions as adult fiction. Just thinking about this book again makes me want to re-read it immediatly.
I tag ANYONE that wants to do this (obviously!) but I do tag: paigeinbooks, oswinsleaf, lukehotmancarpenter and lily-eve-blog
