“Jungkook?”
Confusion was written all over Namjoon’s face upon realizing who was on the other side of the door, blinking a few times and taking a glance at his watch. It was half past 11pm.
“What… what are you doing here? Are you okay?” he asked as he realized the male in front of him was not his cheerful, goofy self that that he usually was. Instead he looked… he looked confused… scared… sad. “What’s going on?” Namjoon breathed out, worries clouding over his thoughts and his chest feeling awfully tight at seeing the younger like this, his body frozen in place.
Jungkook swallowed heavily and opened and closed his mouth a few times like he wasn’t sure what to say or like the words just wouldn’t come out.
“Joonie?” another voice asked and a head of tousled hair appeared over Namjoon’s shoulder, moving towards the door until Yoongi’s dark brown eyes peeked around the younger’s shoulder, showcasing the same, slightly confused reaction as Namjoon had just a moment before.
“Jungkook?” he asked as well and somehow this made the barrel of bottled up emotions inside of Jungkook spill over. His bottom lip started wobbling and a second later tears were spilling over. He wiped at his eyes clumsily in a futile attempt to hide them or make them stop.
The other two were shocked into silence but Yoongi managed to spring into action first. “Kookie,” he said softly, his heart aching as the younger just sobbed at the mention of the nickname. “Oh honey…” Yoongi pushed past the still shocked Namjoon gently and wrapped his arms around the youngest. He had grown so much and went to the gym often enough that Yoongi was no longer taller or broader than him. Jungkook had outgrown him by a few inches and his shoulders had gotten pretty broad in the last few months but right now it still felt like Yoongi was comforting the shy, young kid at a tender age of 11 when people had made fun of his teeth that weren’t perfectly straight.
“It’s okay, it’s okay,” he tried to say soothingly but Jungkook just continued crying, holding Yoongi close like he was his life belt out on a stormy sea.
The oldest glanced at Namjoon unsurely, both of them not knowing what on earth was going on.
“Kookie… come here, lets get inside,” Yoongi said softly and leaned back, Jungkook just tightening his hold around him and pulling him back into his chest like he was an overgrown stuffie. The Jungkook they knew usually didn’t act like this which made them all the more worried.
Yoongi slowly walked backwards, pulling the younger with him into their apartment. Namjoon closed the door behind them and helped guiding them to the couch where Yoongi sat down and couldn’t help grunting softly as Jungkook just flopped down on top of him, probably squashing him a little.
Namjoon finally noticed the big backpack on the younger and slowly tried to remove it while also making Jungkook slide off of Yoongi’s lap so they could sit next to each other. He did realize how incredibly heavy the backpack was but decided not to question it right now. Yoongi and him shared another worried glance before Namjoon also sat down on the couch and started rubbing Jungkook’s back in a hopefully soothing way.
It took several minutes before one of them dare to ask.
“Jungkook… Kookie… what’s wrong? What happened?” Namjoon asked, the younger sniffling pitifully and still hiding his face in Yoongi’s shoulder. He needed some moments to get out a response.
“T-they kn-now…” he almost whimpered and Yoongi furrowed his eyebrows. “They… who? What do they know?”
Jungkook hiccuped several times. “M-m… my… m-my parents… t-they know t-that…” he took a few shaky breaths. “T-that I’m… that I’m g-gay.”
Something cold and dreadful settled in both Namjoon’s and Yoongi’s stomach, looking at each other worriedly. They knew how Jungkook’s parents were. They were nice and sweet people but they made a 180 degree turn as soon as anything ‘out of the norm’ happened and apparently being gay was not normal in their eyes. “What… what did they say?” Namjoon asked quietly and Jungkook’s fingers curled into Yoongi’s shirt, his shoulders trembling. “T-that I s-shouldn’t…. s-shouldn’t come b-back.”
Yoongi felt like someone had punched him in the gut. “They… they kicked you out?” he gasped and Jungkook nodded his head with a pitiful whimper. “They…” Yoongi didn’t even know what to say. Of course he had known that Jungkook’s parents weren’t really open towards any of this but to think they’d be so willing to kick out their child because of his sexuality. The person they had raised with love and care… He was still the same person for fuck’s sake!
“H-hyung,” Jungkook whimpered and the two older ones where pulled back into reality. “W-what should I d-do? I don’t…. I don’t have anything, I-I don’t h-have money, I-I just started college I… I don’t know what to do. They were screaming and yelling at me a-and I just… I just grabbed what I c-could find b-but…” his voice wavered and a new wave of tears ran down his cheeks.
Yoongi leaned back and looked at the younger’s face, wiping his tears away with the pads of his thumbs. “You’re gonna stay here,” he said softly, Jungkook’s eyes widening and the oldest could see the protest already bubbling out of his mouth so he stopped him before he could say anything. “No buts, this is not up for discussion. You’re gonna stay here and we’ll figure out this shit together, okay?”
“B-b-but-”
“No buts,” Namjoon agreed softly and inched a little closer. “You know you’re always more than welcome here, Kookie.”
Jungkook looked at little at loss for words, not knowing what to say so he just sniffled and wiped his eyes again. “M-m’ sorry.”
“There is nothing to be sorry for,” Namjoon murmured and pulled the younger closer. “It’s okay, we’ll figure this out together. We have your back, we got you.”
The youngest inched into Namjoon’s lap to hug him as well and Yoongi looked at the sight with a sad smile, his heart still aching. Jungkook was such a sweet and kind person, he didn’t deserve any of this.
“I’ll make some hot chocolate,” Yoongi mumbled and stood up from the couch. Namjoon watched him go, admirring the older who others rarely saw as the soft and caring soul he was. “It’s be fine,” he said softly, rubbing Jungkook’s back who was still sniffling a little.
Once Yoongi was back they pushed the couch and armchairs together back to back, drawing a blanket over it like a roof before throwing all their pillows and other blankets into the little cave their had just created. Yoongi disappeared for a minute only to come back with a bowl of popcorn and marshmallows, placing them down as well.
“There,” he said once they were finally settled, their spare mattress making it all the more comfortable. They were cuddled up together, sipping hot chocolate and eating their snacks while some animated movie was playing. No one was really paying much attention to it, too lost in their cuddle feast but it was fine like that, it was okay.
“It’ll be okay,” Yoongi said again softly, Namjoon humming in agreement. Jungkook who as lying between them nodded his head faintly, for the first time since that afternoon feeling the slightest bit at ease.
