THE PROMISED NEVERLAND MANGA SPOILERS

Dude Norman's character arc got dark as hell
It really did and I’m delighted honestly.
Because he and Ray have completely swapped places compared to how they were in the first arc, and it actually really makes sense?
Ray’s been with Emma the last two years, he’s had this tight knit family and the weight of Norman’s “death” as a lesson keeping him from straying back to the destructive direction he was heading towards before.
Norman used to be the one who wanted to be like Emma, who admired her compassion and idealism, who was always telling Ray he wants to go by her feelings, who was the person actively making sure Ray didn’t give into his worst impulses...
but without being with Emma and Ray, by being cut off from them, he’s completely lost sight of that. He’s gone the same direction Ray did by fighting by himself all this time, only WORSE. And it was all triggered by that decision he made to martyr himself. This ruthlessness was a quality he had all along, but once he decided he had to break off, he was without his friends to balance him out and it super came to the forefront.
TPN has a really strong “making yourself a martyr is bad, it’s the same as cutting yourself off from others” theme running through it, and Norman shows us how you can recognize mistakes in others but then make those exact mistakes yourself, especially when you don’t have your loved ones around to ground you.
