(2) is the relationship between Belle and the Beast, and there's *something* missing. I can see so much potential there, but for me, it just didn't have the follow-through. I know I'm definitely in the minority opinion, but I think it's *because* I love the original so much. I still think it's worth seeing - it's beautiful, and I have to say, I really enjoyed Gaston. But it didn't quite capture the magic for me. ~DarkMK

We can’t afford to see movies all that often, so I’ll probably turf the remake of Beauty and the Beast to the ‘don’t see at the cinemas/watch later’ column, because I just wouldn’t spend money on something that I’m not really certain I’m going to love (like Lego Batman, which I saw last night, and did really love - it’s only just come out here in Australia, lol).
But yeah, I’m not sure you are in the minority opinion in that (I mean, in terms of what I’m personally hearing - not in terms of what everyone’s saying on Facebook necessarily...) - I’m hearing similar re: the critiques. I’ve also heard that Watson’s acting doesn’t necessarily capture some of the nuances of an animated Belle, and that due to a few elements, the relationship feels more ‘instalove’ than the animation, which given it’s a story about (successfully done) instalove, could be a bit of an issue?
It does sound gorgeous though, so I will see it eventually if only for the special effects and how they’ve re-imagined it? :) Just not at the cinema. With so many movies dropping this year that I want to see (Thor: Ragnarok, Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Wonder Woman and...others I forget), along with most finance being turfed straight to health stuff, I’m being choosier than usual.
At least we’ll always have the animation! :D
