Who do you desperately wish had a route?

I rarely have a wish for someone to have a route that doesn't already have one. I think the only time I remotely had a thought of "why isn't this a route" is this man.

OTOMETOBER DAY 2 ~ Let’s hear it for the ladies! Who is your favorite heroine or MC?

This one is hard! I mean of course it’s Cadence and I also adore the main character of Hatoful Boyfriend, but I don’t want to be prattling on about the same games. I want to spread the love. So one MC I have a major soft spot for is...

The heroine of Amnesia: Memories! I know in the first game she doesn’t have much to say, but I adore her design and wanted to cosplay her so badly some time ago, but I didn’t think I could pull her off and figured it would never happen. Then in 2021 I said ah heck, I’mma make it happen. :) I love cosplaying her because I get to talk to fellow otome fans and they are the sweetest people. <3

@lovebirdgames​‘s Otometober looks like a lot of fun so I’m joining in! Days 1-6 below the cut :)

Day 1 — Your first otome: I believe it was MCL, back in 2012. I’ve always loved games with a dress-up component. 

Day 2 — Favorite heroine: I don’t have a favourite, but really confident protagonists like Mira from Valentines Otome or the MC from The Pirate Mermaid stand out.

Day 3 — Favorite song: Endless Struggle from Mystic Messenger, without a doubt. I love most soundtracks that feature piano and strings (especially cello!!! my baby!!)

Day 4 — Currently playing: The new DLC for Our Life :)

Day 5 — Tsundere: Mr. Bandages from Halloween Otome and Castiel from MCL introduced me to my love for tsundere for sure. I think they need an MC who plays off of them well. Which is why Carlota loves to tease Flint so much heheh

Day 6 — Funniest moment: 707 made me laugh a LOT in his route, teasing Cove makes for a lot of great moments (”Was that good? I mean—that was good”), Blooming Panic is generally hilarious and xyx made me guffaw 

and I’m not ashamed to admit that The Spanish Privateer makes me laugh too!!! Yes I laugh at my own writing!! And I’m proud of it!!

What's your favorite song from an otome game?

Y'all pay attention to the music?

Just kidding. Mostly.

I ADORE "Broken Cinderella" from Cinderella Phenomenon. It gets stuck in my head so often when I dive back into Dicesuki Games. And it's such a bop? I dunno, it just defines the game so well for me, especially since it is quite literally a broken Cinderella story.

I also really like the opening song for OzMafia, which is silly and cute and really just gets you excited to see if you can beat this dang game (which I haven't completely yet... someday).

Also, what's NOT to love about a line that says, "I love you more than anyone before/and I'm gonna love you for the rest of your life"???

If I had time, I'd go play some OzMafia now...

Do you have a favorite sequel?

I haven't actually gotten to a lot of sequels, unfortunately, but I did play Rod and Karma's route in Cinderella Phenomenon Evermore, and it was AMAZING. So well made, UGH. It's so cute and it's absolutely everything. I was happy to donate a few more dollars to Dicesuki for the hard work you can just tell went into it.

OTOMETOBER DAY 17 ~ Let’s celebrate the little guys! The indie game community is a treasure trove of gems waiting to be discovered. Indie games are labors of love and definitely deserve support. So what’s your favorite indie otome game?

(spoilers for Cinderella Phenomenon below)

Putting aside the obvious! I’m going to spotlight my first OELVN indie otome...Cinderella Phenomenon! It’s free to play and a staple in the indie otome community. What I really enjoyed about this game is the fairytale worldbuilding and the flawed protagonist, Lucette (or as I named her, Tayette). Witnessing her development into a better person is just as rewarding as watching her fall in love! Meanwhile, I’m out here falling for the guy who’s not an option...but what else is new, I guess.

OTOMETOBER DAY 7 ~ Time to turn the tables. Otome games are full of emotional scenes. What’s the saddest moment you’ve experienced in an otome? Did you cry?

(SPOILER CG FOR CODE REALIZE AHEAD)

I don’t consider myself an emotional person. The only time I’ve shed a tear is at the end of Saint Germain’s route in Code: Realize because I was so relieved that after all their struggles, they were able to achieve that happy ending and finally rest.

Another scene I found very sad is Monshiro’s bad ending in Psychedelica of the Black Butterfly. The voice acting was excellent and it was deliciously angsty, though it didn’t make me cry. Gosh, white-haired characters always seem to have it the hardest, don’t they? ...

However, when it comes to Band Camp Boyfriend? ...Anyone who follows this account knows I’m crying all the time! (TTATT) I cry at the bad endings, the good endings, certain CGs and voice lines, when I hear the credits music, when I just think about the characters too hard! I guess it hits different when it’s your kid.

Just like I hope you laugh when you play the game, I hope to make you cry as well! Yep. I’m out to make people cry. Horrible person, me.

Otometober Day 28

What is your fondest memory from otome games?

Not to call out @lovebirdgames, but my first time playing the demo was phenomenal. Absolutely cannot be beat. I was screaming happily and laughing and smiling so wide when I played it. I couldn't believe my luck that marching band--something that has defined my entire life, more of less--was in an otome game!

Also, every single character reminded me fondly of someone in my own retinue of marching band friends and acquaintances, so it was so great to me. One of the best experiences of my life.
