“Escape Island After 12 Days,” The Globe and Mail. September 30, 1941. Page 3. ---- Thessalon, Sept. 29 (CP) - Theft of gasoline from a boat which they had chattered left a party of four Thessalon people marooned twelve days on Michipicoten Island. Today they had returned home showing no ill effects from the experience.
Mr. J. McColeman, with her two sons, Kenneth and David, and Miss Rita Moreau, chartered a gasoline boat at Montreal River for a trip to Otter Head. Just beyond Michipicoten Island, their gasoline supply ran out, presumably as the result of theft from the boat’s tank.
The party was well supplied with food and hard warm blankets and was without bread for four days until two boats passed near enough to be hailed and a new supply of bread was obtained. The crew of the yacht Four Winds notified the United States Coast Guard of the party’s plight and the tug Dobson later transported them to Otter’s Cove.
