Funny you should ask. Annie, did move in with Brookie, so she changed her choice of schools, and is instead going to NYU to be with him. Brookie puts on A LOT of stress on himself. He moved away from his family, he's trying to head the New York division of Blood Like Wine, and he's trying to be as effortlessly good as his big brother Otto. Brooks adds a lot of unnecessary stress to his life because of this. No one asked him to do this alone, but he wanted to prove himself.

Annie takes a long sip of her coffee as she looks outside of the café. Needing to get out of the apartment and just study for a moment. This wasn’t at all how she thought living with Brooks would be. The first year was blissful. Brooks was his playful self, chasing her around the apartment.
But now Brooks spent more time at the new division, and less time at home. He slept less, and became a lot more bitter, especially when Otto reached another milestone. Annie tried to tell him that Otto was older, and he had been at the company for quite some time, while Brooks was starting a division from the ground up. He didn’t want to listen.
So anytime Analey got a chance, she was drinking a coffee, eating a croissant, and sitting in her favorite spot. Able to people watch, but also fully pay attention to her studies.
Otto rarely went to the city. He preferred his time spent in Boston. But when he could take a chance to visit the new division and spend some time with his brother, he did. The past few months, Brooks always had an excuse. Explaining to Otto, that he had everything under control, which confused the oldest Baizen more, because he just wanted to see his brother, and not wanting to talk business at all.
It just so happened that he was walking to his apartment when he spots Annie, nose in a book, while her finger unconsciously plays with her hair. Otto stops to watch her a minute, having to shake his mind from going elsewhere, before he just walks into the café.
“Well, if it isn’t little Annie Gables,” Annie looks up at him, giving him a big smile, and Otto diverts his gaze to the book she’s reading, “This,” he taps on an old copy of Anne of Green Gables, “I’m pretty sure isn’t required reading.”
“It’s not. I just needed a moment of…simpler times,” she gestures to the chair in front of her, and Otto holds up a hand. “What’re you doing?”
“I need coffee.”
She gives him an odd gaze, and then points at the front counter, “Then go order one, like a normal person.”
Otto leans back in his chair, and gives her a big smile, before a young man walks over to their table, “Mr. Baizen, would you like your usual?”
“As a matter of fact, Jeffrey, I would,” Otto’s eyes never leave Annie’s as he talks to the barista, “Could you maybe bring me a surprise pastry of some sort?”
“Of course. Right away.”
Otto leans forward again, and slides the book over to him, while Annie rolls her eyes, “You Baizen’s get recognized everywhere, huh?”
“It comes with the territory, sugar,” he tears off a piece of her croissant, and pops it into his mouth, “What’s wrong, the loft too big for you? Brookie keeping you too busy?”
“Wow, that’s a bit personal, Otto. Do you talk to all your brother’s girlfriends like that?”
“Well, Z is divorced, Archie is looking for a woman that can compare to mom, and Raiden has been married since he could walk. But I did not mean that the way it came out. You and Brookie, you guys have been together awhile, huh?” Annie’s eyes move down to the table, as her cheeks go red.
“Hey, you know mom and dad started dating when she was in high school. It’s fine. Uncle Hawwy didn’t know though, did he?” Annie shakes her head no, and Otto stops talking while his own coffee and dessert is delivered to the table.
“Brookie used to have fun.”
“He’s busy,” Annie finally looks back up at Otto regretting that decision. “He’s got a lot of pressure on his shoulders. He was sent here alone.”
“No, he wasn’t. Aster offered to come out here with him, and even Fable said she could start here, but Brooks was all, ‘Oh, I don’t need some college girl fucking up the family business.’ He’s too proud to accept help, that’s different. Dad always said if he wasn’t careful, Brooks could turn into Gregory, and mom swatted his ass for that. We don’t like my dad’s parents.”
“Why would Carter say that then?”
“Gregory, avoided his wife and put all his effort into his work to do so. I mean…I’m not saying Brooks is doing that to you.”
“He’s not,” Annie answers defensively. “Brooks is trying to prove himself to his dad, and Ransom, but mostly to you.”
“Me? What the hell does he have to prove to me?”
Annie sighs rolling her eyes, “Brooks looks up to you. He adores you. Everything has always came natural to you.”
“I couldn’t talk normal for thirteen years of my life. Thankfully I was good at school since I had speech therapy most of my childhood, had to be pulled out of class to work on my R’s and L’s. Got bullied because of the way I talked. I have a father who was a fucking psycho, and I hoped my whole life I didn’t turn out like him. Why do you think I was always so hellbent on being with my dad, and doing what my dad does? Because I didn’t want to be my sperm donor. Brooks wants to play this pitiful game, it won’t work for me. We had the same childhood. We had a good and charmed life. And he at least gets to say Carter is father.”
“I didn’t know,” Annie looks up at Otto, and sees his need for complete perfection all the time.
“But I don’t blame my sperm donor for anything. I thank Carter for being my dad. Brooks never wanted for anything. Babied by everyone because he was tiny. He’s so naturally smart, but he stresses himself out. He didn’t even come shopping for the children’s hospital with us this year. Explain that to my mom. She misses Brookie. If she could have kept us all at the castle she would. But to hear him talk, she only favored me and Raiden. And once the girls were born, she didn’t care about any of us boys. Which is a lie.”
“Otto, I…Brooks is just misunderstood.”
“He’s a baby, that everyone makes excuses for, including you. So either he mans up and gets the company started, or he’s the bigger man, and admits he needs help. There’s nothing wrong asking for help. It’s good for you to admit that you can’t do it alone. I still ask dad for help.”
“Can we change the subject. Brooks isn’t here to defend himself. He does try. He wants you and your parents to be proud of him.”
Otto nods slowly, “He should consider himself lucky that we have the means to fail. He should take risks. Most don’t have built in money like we do.”
“So, how is your girlfriend, Giselle?”
“We broke up,” Otto smiles taking another bite from her croissant. “I’m flying solo right now.”
“You’re about to be drinking solo if you take another bite from my food. You should have asked for one of your own,” Otto throws a hand up to ask for his own croissant, but Annie pulls it back down. “Stop. Be normal for once.”
————————————
“You’ll never believe who I ran into today,” Annie says walking into hers and Brooks’ loft, while he sets another dirty dish in the sink. She takes a calming breath before picking it up to put in the dishwasher.
“Who?” he asks. He reaches around her for a container of bourbon, and pours him a glass.
“Your brother Otto.”
“Really? What’s he doing in the city?” Annie turns to give him an odd look at the tone change, but continues.
“He was wanting to see you.”
“He didn’t,” Brooks takes a long drink of the bourbon looking at her. “How long did you talk to him?”
“I don’t know maybe an hour?”
“Where?” he asks taking a slow step towards her. “Where was my girlfriend at while she was talking to Mr. Perfect?”
“You’re acting ridiculous. I was at the coffee shop. He saw me, and came and sat with me.”
“I don’t want you around him, unless I’m present.”
“Excuse me? Is there something you want to say? Since clearly, you think our talking was more than that.”
“You’re a fucking redhead,” Brooks screams. Annie rolls her eyes and walks towards the bathroom. “He wants you.”
“Oh. My. God! Brooks, do you hear yourself? Where am I? I am at home with you, my boyfriend. And instead of taking a nice relaxing bath with me, you’re screaming at me for something I didn’t do. Banning me from talking to your brother, unless you’re around. I don’t want him.”
“But he wants you. And whatever he wants, he always gets.”
Annie turns the water on, ignoring that Brooks had followed her into the bathroom. Glaring at him. “He’s not the only one. Just like this stupid argument. Do we always gotta fight before we have sex?”
Brooks shuffles his feet back and forth looking at her. “Not everything has to be fast and hard, Brooks. But if you want to lean me over the counter and take your frustrations with Otto out on me,” she undresses, standing in front of him completely naked. “I’ll let you. Whatever you need to make you feel better.”
“There’s nothing wrong with me.”
“I didn’t say there was.”
“I’m stressed. And…C’mere. I am stressed Annie. Work is killing me. I’ve got no help,” Annie steps closer to him, and cups his bulge over his pants. “You gonna help me relax?”

Otto Baizen Masterlist
Otto stares blankly at his computer screen. Ten thousand things running through his head, but the biggest was why his dad had called him into his office for a meeting. He’s pretty sure it has everything to do with Brooks, and he knows he’s wrong.
Tried to be short and cold to Annie. Tried to push the smiles and thoughts away, but he was struggling. It makes sense for him to stay away, but he enjoyed her smile. Enjoyed the way that she thought, and even her way of telling stories. He was fascinated beyond the average month long girls he usually kept. He had known her his whole life, and still he wanted to know more.
Checking the clock, he readies himself to meet with Carter. Carter hates tardiness as much as he hates being away from Story too long. Nearly dragging his feet, he opens the large double doors, sitting in front of his dad’s desk. Getting a bit sad when he sees his dad has still never removed the scuffed up little table for him and his siblings.
While Carter was on the phone, he looks around his second home. Had been coming here since he was five, and his dad started his own company. Random crude drawings on the walls, that him and his siblings thought Carter wouldn’t notice. He did, but they were never painted over. Even pictures of each of them. A hand painted pink rose behind Carter’s desk, that was always his dad’s favorite.
Even a large family photo, and Otto has to look away from the photo of Brooks on his back, both boys smiling large with their braces on. Brooks always did want to be just like him.
Carter ends the call and walks over to his desk, giving his son a smile, “I’ve been meaning to talk to you man to man, and seeing how you’ve been putting in some extra hours, this seemed like the only option,” Otto leans down further into his chair nearly guessing where this conversation is going.
“I spoke to your brother this morning.”
“Dad, it’s not what he thinks.”
Carter raises an eyebrow at him, taking a slow sip of his coffee, “He said you came and visited him and stayed a few days. What are you talking about?”
“Nothing.”
“The reason why I mentioned it, a few reasons, I want to thank you. Brookie has been working a lot of hours at the division, and he’s feeling alone. You and him being so close, I figured you felt something and wanted to see him. Your mom and I are taking the girls, well the three little ones. Iclynn and Illiana have their SATs while we’re gone and need to stay, and I would like if you stayed with them.”
“Iclynn is eighteen.”
“And and Illiana is seventeen. I’m well aware of my daughters’ ages, son. I just don’t like them to be alone. They don’t want to go to anyone’s house, they want to be at home. Illiana has a new boyfriend and Iclynn has…an Arlo. The boys can come over, but they’re not to be left alone. Can I trust you with that?”
Otto sighs, nodding his head. He could use an excuse to go home. Working extra hours because he wasn’t entertaining any women. He wasn’t right in his mind, and he felt nothing when a pretty girl smiled at him.
“Has Brooks said anything to you? Your mom is thinking he’s been acting odd. Not returning her calls and my mother left Story a voicemail saying he came to visit and wanted to know where Archer and Iclynn were,” Otto rolls his eyes. Hating anything that has to do with Lydia Baizen. “I don’t want him talking to that woman. She’s…”
“Dad, I know how Lydia is. She’s desperate, and Brooks is seeking approval.”
“He has it. Papa even offered to help get him some client established. Papa is retired and wants to lounge with Mimi. He refused. I’m asking again, has Brooks told you anything?”
“Annie has,” Carter folds his hand in his lap, taking a calming breath, knowing a pretty redhead would have gotten Otto’s attention. “Don’t give me that look. Annie seems to think Brooks was basically sent out there to fail. That no one is helping him. He’s creating unnecessary stress for himself, and creating a toxic environment for her.”
“What do you mean toxic?”
“He expects her to do everything at the apartment. And she goes along because, he pays the bills. She knows she could never afford that apartment. And, I saw him drink. He drank a lot. Like frat boy drinking. He’s also been working late everyday.”
“Starting up a division isn’t easy.”
“He’s got a girlfriend at home. Did you work late when you started your company from the ground up? Or did you come home to see mom, me, and Zephyr? Yeah, you worked from home some, but this is a new division not a new company. He has someone at home he claims he loves. And the division isn’t getting done any faster, so why is he working late?”
“Why don’t you say what you think? Because you’re speaking with a lot of anger, and he couldn’t stop talking about how much fun he had with you. What happened?”
Otto settles back in his chair, shaking his head, “Nothing.”
“How’s your coffee shop doing?”
“Fine.”
“We’re resulting to one syllable answers. I appreciate your candor, son.”
Otto sits staring idly at a photo of his parents, laying on Story’s bed, her hair sprawled out around them, while the two of them have the biggest smiles he’d ever seen, gazing at each other. This was a picture before the dark days, as his mom called it. Young, and completely in love.
“How did you know mom was the one?”
Carter’s eyes flick to the picture in question, her white rose necklace still around her neck, and her diamond tennis bracelet on her wrist. The diamonds shining off of it, while her hand holds softly to his cheek.
“When nothing else mattered, but her. Are you falling in love Mr. Month and Move Along?” Otto gives a shrug, knowing no matter what he felt, it didn’t matter. “Your mom, she was the first person to see me. I’ll admit Papa and Mimi were always there, but Story Drysdale, she saw me. She always saw me. Even as a kid, she knew more about me than anyone ever cared to learn. She saw scratches from Lydia on my arm. Even some bruising from her, I lied, because here was this kid that saw these marks from that vile woman, and no one else saw them. Everyone thinks your mom is spoiled, but in so many ways she’s selfless. Because I come before her.”
Otto looks up at his dad, trying to hold the tears at bay, listening to how much his parents still adored one another. “She sacrificed ten years of her body to give us our family. Sacrificed so much happiness because all she wanted was to be with me. I wouldn’t be here without her. I’d have been dead a long time ago, because she gives me a reason to live. The reason I smile. Why have you always been afraid of love?”
“Remember when I went snooping in your office. Found your file on Andy and the sperm donor?” that was something Carter had hoped Otto would never see. Him and Story had almost created a fairytale lie about Otto’s biological father, and he learned the truth all through pictures and police reports.
“Did he ever love mom?”
“I can’t answer that. I think he loved the idea of her more.”
“Andy was abusive to Mimi. Dayton was abusive to mom. So what if I’m abusive to someone? You and Papa both said things started out fine with them. And the longer they were together the worse the abuse got. I’m with them a month, and as soon as the new wears off, I’m done. But what if I’m with them a year or more, and I start hurting them?”
“You couldn’t.”
“How do you know?” Otto’s tears burst through his lashes, and he’s unable to stop them. “How do you know that I won’t hurt a woman?”
“Because you’re mine,” Otto goes to shaking his head, and Carter stands, walking around his desk to hold his son’s face against his stomach. “Yes you are. Remember how I told you that you wouldn’t kick for Dayton? I touched you one time, and you never quit. He might be the reason you’re here, but you are mine. Always were. You never met that bastard. Never had any of his influence. I don’t regret you. I regret I didn’t intervene sooner. I regret that he ever touched your mother. But I don’t regret what had to happen. You have one of the kindest hearts. You’ve never raised your hands or even your voice to your mother, to your sisters, Mimi, Ellie, cousins, aunts. You are Otto Ransom Baizen, my son. Mine.”
“Dad, I’m scared,” scared of being like his family, and scared of falling for Annie. A girl who isn’t his, and a girl that was in an unhappy relationship with his brother.
“I know. And this…this is your big boy problems. One that I can’t fully help you with. But know, I love you. Your mom loves you. I don’t know of anyone who doesn’t love.”
Otto stifles a laugh, finally leaning off his dad, and he reaches for some tissue. “You okay?”
“Not really. Nothing makes sense right now.”
Carter looks around his office, trying to think of something. Anything. “Wanna take the house in the Hamptons for a week?” Otto only shrugs, trying to think of anyway to change the subject.
“Being by yourself helps you clear your mind. Take some time off. Do some soul searching. Preferably, after you make sure your sisters stay out of trouble. Can you do that?”
Otto intakes a hissing breath, “I don’t know, your butterfly and firefly are about ready to take on the world.”
“Please, don’t say that.”
“Illiana’s already making a name for herself on social media. Has all these boys that follow her. They’re wilder than I have ever thought about being.”
“That’s it, you’re grounded. Why the hell would you put thoughts like that in my head? Keep the liquor cabinet locked, and I’m taking the keys to my garage and the wine cellar. I’ve change my mind, Arlo and what’s-his-name, Scott something.”
“Lang.”
“Neither allowed. Just you, and my butterfly and firefly. I have half a mind to take all the caffeine.”
Otto gives his dad a big smile, starting to stand and leave, “Thanks dad.”

“Oh!” Story squeals as Veda walks into the kitchen with her costume on.
Twirling around in her Madeline dress, before scratching her nose, “Gaga, do you know where daddy and Froggy are?”
“I think they’re getting dressed, baby,” Veda gives her a little pout, and spins around to go find Zephyr. “You want Gaga to hold you while we wait for them, sweet girl?”
“Where’s Rosie?” Veda always needed confirmation of where her family was ever since Zephyr brought them to the castle, and never went back to Piper. He had tried to help his wife, but now he was officially divorced with full custody of both girls.
“Rosie is with Gimpa,” Veda’s finger scratches at her nose again, and her eyes start to fill up with tears when Otto jumps around the corner. And she starts laughing. “What are you supposed to be?”
“I’m a nun,” he smooths his hands down his side smiling, “Can you have Madeline without her nun?”
“Nope! Froggy get me!” She jumps up, reaching for Otto, until he throws her in the air, “Gaga, I’m okay. Where’s daddy?”
“Squeezing into his costume,” Otto scrunches his nose up, and Veda gives him nose kisses.
Carter carries in a baby Rosie who claps her hands reaching for Story, “Be careful. She’s a bit prickly, honey,” he leans over giving Story a kiss and his wife hugs up on her baby. “Where’s Z? You guys are going to be late.”
“Daddy won’t tell me what his costume is. Froggy!”
“Nope, I was sworn to secrecy. Mom, I think your son is showing off.”
“What do you…” Story snorts as Zephyr walks in. Shoulders back and walking funny. Tight outfit and all as he stands proudly.
“Otts, where’s my wind machine?” He asks, putting his fists on his hips.
“Daddy, you’re wearing tights!” Veda throws her head back laughing, pointing at Zephyr’s costume.
“I am Superman.”
“With tights! Froggy, he’s got tights.”
“I told you he had to squeeze in there.”
“Baizen, we made pretty babies.”
“This is a Superman costume, Veda baby. I am Superman!”
“Daddy! Next year! Next year can you be Peter Pan, and I’m Wendy, and Rosie is Tinkerbell! Please please!”
“But…that actually is tights this is…”
Carter shakes his head looking at Zephyr, “it’s tights, son. It’s tight all over. What are you trying to do bring a new…” Z shakes his head quickly at his dad. Zephyr kept his dating life away from the girls at all costs.
“I am going trick or treating with my favorite daughters,” Veda throws her head back laughing again, “and Otto. And then, we’ll be back for the party, okay?”
“Daddy, do you think,” she looks at Story pouting, “Do you think mama would want to see us?”
“Baby,” every holiday since they left, she always asks about Piper. And every holiday Zephyr has to explain she can only call until she goes to the ‘doctor’. It wasn’t fair that he had to keep his daughters from their mother. He had offered to pay for her rehab, but she didn’t want to do it. She was just pissed that she didn’t get any alimony. Everything was null and void because of her infidelity and abuse.
Zephyr walks closer to her, reaching his hands out for a big hug, “We’ll try calling her when we get back,” and he knows that when they get back he’ll have to make up another lie, because yet another phone was disconnected. She wasn’t able to use the girls to get what she wanted, money.
“Okay.”
“Yeah? Are you ready to go trick or treating with me and Froggy?”
“And Rosie!”
“Yes, and the prickly pear has to go, too. And then, you can bother Aunt Azzie, okay?”
“Z!” Story shouts at him. “You leave your aunt alone. Now go on. Party is at seven. And we’ve got the apple bobbing, dancing, food, jump houses, and games, okay?”
“Yep! And…” Veda draws out taking a deep breath. “We got Archie!”
“We do have Archie,” she smiles at her. “And Archie is a cactus just like Rosie Osie.”
“Ayy!” Rosie screams, clapping her hands.
“Go on, hurry up, so you can get back!” Story screams at them. Watching as her two oldest take her only grandchildren out trick or treating. “Baizen, I want more of those.”
“Woman, you have daughters still in elementary school.”
“I don’t care. I like those grandbabies. I like them living with us. And…I don’t like that woman, but have you been able to find her?” He shakes his head no. “Our son got him and the girls tested for stds, you realize that, right? You realize the lasting pain she caused our romantic baby? And those precious babies?”
“Story, this upsets you, and we’re not talking about it.”
“We have to. Veda wants her mother.”
“And we can’t make Piper want her. She was an opportunist. She saw a man that falls in love after he has sex, and baby trapped him twice. She’s not you, Story,” Carter knows that Story wants Piper to be better and clean, because she sees herself in their girls’ mother. “Honey, you didn’t baby trap anybody. You didn’t have this grand scheme. And you didn’t blow through someone’s money buying drugs.”
“No, I just sold my body for them,” she goes to turn away, but Carter pulls her close to him. “Baizen…”
“She’s not you. I will continue to search for her. And reach out towards her. But she’s not getting a dime from us. She got a settlement after the divorce. She might have…honey, I don’t want to talk about this. This is a holiday. It is a fun day. Our daughters will be home soon. Now let’s go get on our costumes of whatever couple you're making us be.”
“Lucy and Ricky.”
“And let’s enjoy the calm before the party. I’ll meet you in the vault. One, two,” Story gives him a smile before jogging up the stairs, “Three! Here I come!”
kind of not happening for a long time but is it okay to request an emergency Dudes meeting when Hawwy learned about Otto and Annie? 😆
- 🌻
Sooooo....I can't do that because the way that Hawwy finds out about Otto and Annie, well it's dramatic. Story and Carter find out first, and that's very dramatic. To the point of anger from Carter, and tears from Story. So instead, I present to you the next time Otto sees Annie and he visits his brother, and stays the night...

“Coming!” Brooks shouts, glancing around the apartment, realizing Annie hadn’t returned yet. Changing his pace to a jog. Opening the door, his face drops, before faking a smile, “Otto, what’re you doing here?”
“Came to see my little, Brookie,” he pushes past his brother, going to sit on the couch, propping his legs up, and he playfully taps on the seat next to him. “I would ask if we could have a movie night, and I could have my little brother snuggled up against me. But…I think you’ve already got you a bed buddy to snuggle with.”
“One that you can’t stay away from,” Brooks sits in the chair opposite of his brother, just staring at him.
“Did that bother you? Literally we just talked at a coffee shop. Oddly enough, one that we have invested. We, as in you and me. Wanna pull the camera footage?”
“Already did.”
“This is awkward.”
“I trust her. It’s you I worry about. Mr. Golden Boy,” Otto rolls his eyes at the nickname his brothers had given him, and even more so the first comment. “You’ve always been able to get what you want.”
“I don’t want your girlfriend, Brookie. Honestly,” he puts his hands up in surrender, finally looking around the apartment. “Annie is a girl you marry. Otto doesn’t get married.”
“Right. You like a one and done.”
“How’s Dean?” Otto reaches over grabbing a blow pop from the candy bowl beside his table. “Was this Audi’s idea?”
“She always needs candy,” Brooks reminds him. His sisters don’t visit a ton, but when they do, his perfect princess Audriana is always digging around for candy, so now Annie makes sure she has plenty.
“Dean is fine. He’s a licensed mechanic officially now. And just wants to get into dad’s garage.”
“Don’t we all,” the two boys actually laugh, and Otto tosses him his own lollipop. “Wanna watch a game and bet? You got gushers?”
“You cheat. You still do that, I win because I’m Otto Baizen gig. I’ll order us some takeout. How long are you in New York?”
“A few more days. By the way, my luggage is outside your door. Thank god for private elevator access,” Brooks goes ahead and calls in some Chinese food. The two brothers actually getting along for once. Feeling like they were almost kids again. Laughing about the trouble they got into, and always using Brooks or Archie to get them out of it.
“Babe, there’s some luggage in the,” Annie stops seeing the laughing Otto and Brooks. Unsure how she should feel seeing the two of them together when it was less than a month ago that she was told to stay away from Otto. “I’ll go get the bag and put it in the guest room.”
“Annie, you just got home. Don’t worry about it,” Otto starts. “Brookie ordered us some Chinese.”
“She’s fine. Thanks, Annie,” Otto gives his brother an odd look while Annie goes to grab Otto’s things. Walking into the guest room to make sure it’s good and stocked. “What? That’s what she is supposed to do.”
“What the fuck?”
“I’m telling mom you said a bad language word,” Brooks laughs. “That’s what she does. I work. She can…”
“First off, Brookie, your entitlement is showing. Secondly, you saying that because that’s what mom did? You know dad told her every time she didn’t have to. And mom worked.”
“I know she worked. I worked in her office.”
Otto lets out a strained snort, “I did I worked in her office as my high school job.”
“You sat in a cozy chair and helped her and Lucy decide colors for the characters. Or a title of the book.”
“Yeah, well, going to work with dad wasn’t an option, since you and Archer already went. Dude, I don’t want to fight. I worked just as much as you guys. Uh, not as much as Zeph. None of us worked as much as him. Except…”
“Iclynn,” they both answer together.
“You boys know the only reason Icy worked with James is because of Arlo, right?” Annie asks starting to sit on Brooks’ lap.
“Why don’t you go and put on something more comfortable. Otto is staying the night. You know I don’t like day clothes on me,” Otto shoots Brooks another harsh look, but Annie is already heading to the bedroom for some shorts and a shirt.
“What the hell does she mean about my baby and Arlo? Annie!” she gives them a giggle, crawling into Brooks lap.
“Nothing. Forget I said anything about Icy and Ari Jr. I’d call him AJ if there wasn’t already one in the family.”
The three actually get along. And enjoying her time with Brooks, she snuggles right into him. Only getting up once the food gets there.
Enjoying a moment with them, until it’s time to clean up, “I’ll help,” Otto offers.
“It’s fine. You two spend some time together,” she cleans up the kitchen, taking out the trash, before going to give Brooks a kiss.
The man pulls her into his lap, deepening the kiss, “Brookie, I’m going to bed. Don’t stay up too late, okay?”
“Okay, babe. Love ya,” Annie repeats the sentiment, giving a little wave to Otto, before retiring to their room.
“So things good in paradise? Or you just trying to turn her into mom?”
“What?” Brooks looks over at him, brows furrowed and on the defense.
“Even dad helped mom clean up after dinner. Hell, we did sometimes, too. He always said, never take your mother or any woman willing to clean up after you for granted.”
Brooks rolls his eyes, settling back in the seat. “Not everyone’s life is a fairy tale.”
“Have you ever talked to them? It wasn’t. You know sometimes you gotta get out of your own head, and talk to the people around you. Not everything is about you.”
“Correction, not everything is about you, Golden Boy. I’m going to bed with my girlfriend. Might want some noise cancelling headphones on. If you didn’t pack any there’s some in the top drawer.”
“It’s tacky to brag about sex, Brookie.”
————————————
Annie pushes Brooks arm off of her, needing a drink of water. Grabbing up his discarded button up, she puts it on, walking out of the bedroom, yelping at Otto diddling around on his computer. The older man looks up at her, apologizing. “You’re fine, it was…I forgot you were here a moment.”
She awkwardly walks into the kitchen, asking if he wants anything while she fills up a glass, “I’ll take a beer.”
Popping a top off a Sam Adams, she walks to hand it over, “Beer after midnight?”
“Yeah,” he shortly answers, refusing to look at her. She looked too good coming out of that bedroom, and he will not allow himself to check out his brother’s girlfriend.
“Everything okay?”
“Doesn’t Brooks need you to clean something up or anything?” Annie bashfully looks away, turning to go back in the bedroom, before looking back at Otto.
“He’s under a lot of stress.”
“I’m sure college isn’t stressful?”
“I don’t mind,” Otto nods at her, finally looking up at her. “I don’t. It’s the least I can do. He pays for everything.”
“So, he’s your keeper? Not allowed to be around me without him, so I suggest you run along.”
“Otto.”
“Annie, he’s made it perfectly clear to the both of us, he doesn’t want us as friends. And seeing how you do whatever he tells you to, I see where this is going. It’s fine. It’s your life. Harry wanted more than you to fold over for some man.”
“My dad wants me to be happy, and I am. You’re not being fair.”
“Neither is Brooks. Goodnight, Annie,” she whispers out a goodnight, walking in to see Brooks move his hand over her side before looking back up at her.
“You get thirsty?” she gives him a nod, drinking on her water before crawling back into him. A quick moment of how her and Brooks once was.
Even the way he clings to her, bringing her as close to him as possible, and ghosting his lips on her. A deep sigh rolls off of him, and she settles down onto him. Wishing that this was the Brooks she always got. “I love you, Brooksie.”
“Love you, too, Sa…Annie,” if it wasn’t for a soft snore coming from him, she would question more. Thinking she almost heard him say someone else’s name. But he wouldn’t. He couldn’t. He’s usually working. And he’s been working later.
“Brooks?” just more snoring. She tells herself it was a snore, and he wasn’t going to say someone’s name. Because that would be just silly.
How are the sweet teller/baizen triplets doing??!!🥺❤️
Well....since we're a bit on the pain train with Brooks/Annie and Otto...AND I did say the triplets make a visit to the Baizen Hampton house, which is where Otto has been for a few weeks, working remotely, and sometimes just taking complete days off....lets see how these three are as teens. Iclynn and Illiana are Irish twins and Illiana and Daisy are birthday twins. All three seniors. And all three besties.

The moment he hears those giggles, Otto feels himself a bit on edge. He isn’t sure he can handle three teenagers, tried to come up with a few things to keep them out of trouble. His mom had even had copious amounts of snack foods for the three of them.
He fakes a big smile, but it’s lost the moment he locks eyes with Annie. She gives him a forced smile, but follows along with his sister and cousin to their part of the house. Thankfully only offering a quick hi, before they depart.
Feeling sick to his stomach, he rifles through the boxes of food that was still left to put up, but Illiana trots back in, “What’s wrong with you?”
“Do you guys really eat this much?”
“How much junk food do you eat when you’re high, pothead?”
“Don’t be an ass. I’m just,” his voice trails off when he sees Iclynn and Daisy turn the corner with Annie. She looked different. Tense. Hurt. Something he couldn’t place. “Uh, I’m gonna…I think I’m going to the pool.”
“The pool?” Illiana asks confused. “We’re at the fucking,” Otto clears his throat, still not used to his baby sisters cussing, “Flipping beach, and you want the pool? I have a new bathing suit that everyone needs to see my ass.”
“Really?” Illiana gives him a sweet smile. “No. I’m gonna have to go everywhere with your three…four. Because you are trouble aren’t you?” she shakes her head quickly, but Iclynn and Daisy both nod at Otto.
“Otts, I’m single and need…the less you know the better. You are daddy’s spy aren’t you? You’ll run and tell him everything! That’s why you work with him, isn’t it?”
“Ills, get on your suit. And go to the pool for now. We’re going out on the boat later. Hired you a captain, so I can work,” she gives him a grumble, but he stops her quickly. “This may be vacation for you. But it’s my workday.”
“Dad said you’re taking a break?” Iclynn asks as she gives her brother a sad look. She could sense some distress and unease with him. He was never gone this long. “Is everything okay? Even when you left you hadn’t been yourself.”
“I’m fine,” his eyes cut over to Annie’s, and he’s not sure how he’s going to get out of this. “I just needed to clear my head.”
“It’s a girl isn’t it? What girl has stolen Otto’s heart?”
“Suits, now!”
“Sheesh, it’s definitely a girl. You need to get laid,” Daisy gasps, pulling Iclynn along with her, but Annie stands there sheepishly playing with her hair. “Fine, I’ll shut my mouth. I’m expecting you to get high or drunk with us and tell us all about her.”
“You better not be smoking, Illiana Ryder Baizen!”
“Ooh,” the other two girls chant, and even Annie snorts a bit.
“That hurt. You full named me. No me gusta, Señor. No me gusta. I’m going out to the pool.”
“Icy, you two aren’t smoking are you? Daisy?” she turns her head looking at anything but Otto. “At least do edibles. Smoking is a nasty habit.”
“Does that mean…”
“It means, get dressed Illiana!”

Otto tries to focus. Tries to just pay attention, but between the girls splashing and playing around in the pool, and Annie sat under an umbrella reading Anne of Green Gables, he just couldn’t. Only a year separated her and Iclynn, but she seemed so much more mature. There was a calmness about her that his sisters didn’t possess. Little did he know it was because she was not in a good headspace.
And even now on the boat, he tries to put Annie out of his mind. Tries to quit looking at her. Tries to step further away from her every time she gets close to them, but they both found themselves always next to the other. It was almost no use. They always gravitated toward the other.
Lost in his reverie he doesn’t notice Annie walking into the dining area, stopping a moment to just stare at him. She couldn’t stay away. She needed to. She wanted to. She sighs, walking in to get her a drink, like she wanted. She wasn’t going to let how she was feeling about Otto keep her from doing what she was needing to do.
Otto’s eyes drift from his computer in front of him to the window outside.
Annie places an open bottle of beer on the table in front of him, and settles down at the table with her own ginger ale. “You avoiding me?”
Otto finally looks at her with his cocky grin, and shakes his head, “I’ve got a company that relies on me. I’m working. Like I said, this isn’t my vacation.”
“Icy said you’ve been out here for a few weeks now,” Annie’s eyes focus on the beer bottle in front of him. A beer he didn’t ask for and still she felt compelled to give him something, only because she got something to drink.
“Needed to clear my head, Gabes.”
Annie huffs out a laugh, finally able to look up at Otto, who is now the one turning away.
“Forgot you called me that.”
“What?” he asks animatedly. “You forgot that you made me swear on top of Anne of Green Gables that I would take you to Prince Edward Island one day? It feels like I’ve been punched in the gut.”
“You know, us Bodecker’s, we can be just as dramatic as the Drysdale’s. I guess we had to to put up with you lot for so long. Glad I finally grew out of that phase.”
“Yeah, you did,” Otto mumbles, quickly grabbing up his beer to take a long swig.
“What was that?”
“Nothing. So have you really lost that Bodecker spunk?”
“Life changes you.”
Otto nods, raising his bottle to toast her soda, “People change you.”
“Touché. So who changed you, Mr. Baizen.”
“I’d rather not say.”
“That bad, huh?” her brow cocks up, and she tries to smile, but Otto’s face turns serious. The playful flirty banter gone.
“Depends on how you look at it, I guess. Some might say it’s frowned upon. I say, you can learn something from people of all ages. If you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna tell the captain to go ahead and turn back. Enjoy your soda, Annie Gables.”
Annie follows him as he quickly walks away. Needing to remove himself quickly, because he’s failing. The desire to reach out and grab her hand, even to cup her face as her singsong laughter fills the cabin. He can’t do this. Not here.
————————————
“Where’s Otto?” Annie asks walking around the bar to grab up some popcorn.
“He’s out on the beach ‘thinking’,” Iclynn looks over Annie hard. She’s noticed how off she seemed when they kidnapped her, but also how her demeanor was changing from comfortable to distant. Her constant excuses to be away from them.
She slightly pulls her away from the giggling blonde ‘twins’ as they raid the pantry.
“Is everything okay?” Annie tries to nod, but Iclynn playfully smacks her. “Don’t lie. What’s going on with you and Brooks?”
“It’s nothing.”
“So there’s something. You two okay?” when Annie shrugs, Iclynn wraps her arms around her in a tight embrace. “I knew something was off at the apartment. And the fact he hasn’t been calling Audi. And Otto?”
“Brooks is closest with Otto. I just wanna know if he’s told his brother anything, you know? I’m gonna…I’ll be back.”
“You put your stuff in the bedroom across the hall.”
“With college and everything, I just wanted to sleep and let you guys have fun and enjoy yourselves. I don’t wanna bring the fun down. I’m gonna…I was just gonna talk to Otto. I got something I wanna ask him.”
While Iclynn nods, she watches Annie. There’s more to whatever is going on. Even if she doesn’t know what it is. Annie is withholding information.
Even leaving her phone on the counter. Which makes sense, seeing how it wasn’t going off with notifications. Even now, when she picks up the other girl’s phone, there’s no messages from Brooks. Before he had text her all the time.
Annie takes a deep breath as she watches Otto sit out of the beach. His feet barely sticking in the water as he looks out at the ocean. The slightest red glow of his ever present roach in his hand. Annie doesn’t want to spend a week with this awkward avoidance of each other. She’s not sure what Otto was going through, but she wants to let him know, that she was there for him.
Making her way down the stairs, Otto doesn’t to turn to know it’s her. He always knew. It was like his stomach was at unease whenever she was around. And that slightly sweet and orchid smell that he couldn’t get enough of. Definitely not the luxury perfumes he was accustomed to, but it was perfectly Annie.
He clears his throat, holding up his hand with the joint, offering her a puff, which she does in fact take before she sits down, a bit too far away. Wisps of hair blowing with the evening breeze, and an oversized hoodie covering up her shorts. Before handing back the stick, she takes another puff, and her emerald eyes turn to look right at his crystal blue ones.
Too afraid to keep looking, but both unable to turn away. “Did you bring enough?” she asks playfully to break the ice.
“Got a good supplier around. It’s not as good as the Adler’s, but this will do until Z gets here.”
A comfortable silence drifts between the two, and Annie almost wished she didn’t have to ruin it. Pulling her knees into her chest, she rests her chin on them and gives him a soft smile, “What cha doing Otts?”
He returns her smile, admiring the way her creamy skin glistens in the moonlight. Her sun kissed glow showing of her splatter of freckles, and she’s never looked more beautiful. “Nothing,” he casually answers.
“Looks like your thinking. Isn’t that why you came here?” he gives her a nod, watching the pot do it’s job as she starts to relax, “Penny for your thoughts?”
“My thoughts cost a lot more than a penny, sugar.”
“Because your Otto Baizen?”
He shakes his head no. His finger tapping along his temple, “Because I got a lot going on up here.”
“Wanna talk about it?” he takes a deep breath, pretending he’s going to speak, but decides best to shake his head no. “The boat ride was fun. I think the girls really enjoyed themselves.”
“The girls,” he chuckles. “Aren’t you only a year older than Iclynn?”
“Lately I’ve felt much older,” she tucks some of her flyaways behind her ear, and Otto wishes it was his fingers doing that for her.
“I get that.”
“Yeah, sometimes…never mind,” she sighs. There was such a calm serenity around them, she would hate to break it.
“What?”
“They’ve got high school problems. I’ve got real world problems. I went from one man’s house into another,” Otto tilts his head to the side, curious if he should get pissed at his brother or not. “One set of rules to another,” rules? Why does Brooks have rules for her? “Never really being…me.”
“Living with the Bodecker’s couldn’t have been that bad. Your dad was a gaming streamer, two bad ass moms, but one had this soft sweetness. And Eva, I’m terrified of.”
“I wasn’t talking about my family,” her eyes move out to the ocean. Taking a deep calming breath. She didn’t want things to go there.
“Do you love him?”
“I did,” she admits. Tears start to form in her eyes, and he hears the slight crack in her voice, “I wanted to grow with him. When I was in high school, and…oh, um,” she bites at her lip. Otto was the first person she ever admitted to them dating while she was still in high school.
“My dad was twenty-four, and my mom had just turned seventeen when they first started dating. I have no judgement.”
“It’s like…you know your first love?” Otto calmly shakes his head no. “Have you ever been in love?”
“Falling,” while Otto looks out to the ocean, Annie stares at him. Unsure if she heard right, and what exactly that could imply.
“Brooks is my first love. Things were happy. Free. And then I move in, and they were the same, but more blissful and magical. But then six months in and he’s pulling away. He drinks a lot. He works a lot. He stays gone a lot. And I just don’t fit in with his lifestyle anymore.”
“Why are you with him then?”
Annie shrugs, unsure herself why she’s tolerated so much from him. The drugs was one thing, but that constant shadow of a feeling like he was bringing other women into the guest room. And that dress with no tag, that she knew for a fact wasn’t hers.
“I never saw anything past Brooks. He was just it. There was nothing else. But it was young love. We’re not moving at the same speed. He’s trying to run ahead of me, and I’m just me. How come you’ve never been in love?”
“I said I was falling,” he chuckles at the audacity at the admission. Hoping she understands it’s her. She was the reason for this break from reality. He needed to get away from her to think, and yet fate pushed them back together. He reaches over to push that twig of hair that just keep keeps flying her face, behind her ear. Gulping at just how beautiful she looks.
“And I love and hate it.”
“Why?” she asks unable to turn away from him.
“It’s one sided.”
“And if it’s not?”
A silence settles between them, and he has to pull away. “Then she has a decision to make. I need to go check on the girls,” he moves to stand, but she grabs at his hand.
“Otto, wait,” he stops his movement, but the words leave her mouth. Speechless the two of them stare at one another. “Is it scary? Falling in love?”
“It’s terrifying,” he whispers.
“Add that to falling out of love.”
“Annie…”
“Otto, I can’t do this.”
“Do what?” his smile returns, despite his heart beating out of his chest. Wanting to just hold her against him, and figure out whatever is being unsaid.
“I’m not sure. I just can’t.”
“I’m the one who can’t do this. I cant complicate things more. I can’t…he’s my baby brother.”
“He’s not the same,” she shakes her head as the tears finally break through her lash line. “He was…it was like he was excited for me to come here.”
“I’m not following.”
“Our fights are almost always about you. When I told him you were going to be here, he told me to have fun and not bother coming back home. The other night, I swear I heard him whisper someone else’s name,” Otto clenches his teeth, and his hands turn into a fist. Brooks knows better. “I can’t do this. I just can’t. Any of it.”
“You know where I stand. The decision is yours, Annie Gables. I’m here. Literally. I’ll help you with what you need. Even if it’s to go back home. If Brookie has another woman…you tell me what you need and when you need it. I’ve gotta go.”
She watches as he retreats in the house. Left with her thoughts on what she should do. Her feelings for Brooks had changed. She was annoyed at the blow he was constantly snorting, but the possible other woman, she couldn’t tolerate. That would be the thing that she would have to walk away from. But is getting help from Otto the right decision?
Can we maybe see the next instalment to the Otto-Brooksie-Annie drama? Will Annie finally find out about Brooksie’s infidelity? 🥺
Okay, so the next installment isn't as much about Otto/Annie/Brookie. It's a bit of a bonding moment between Carter and his kids. But does Brookie show up to the family vacation? Keep in mind that EVERY one of the Baizen's will be there. Along with Annie and Daisy. Even Zephyr's daughters Veda and Rosie are there. Story and Carter wanted Z to be able to enjoy himself, Veda always needs to have someone around her. She always needs to be touching someone. We'll eventually get into that mess.

Otto tags a swig of his beer, trying to watch the girls. Trying to get out of his head, and remove Annie. It was a failing game. It was the last night of just him and the girls before his family came for the rest of the week. And of course Illiana had used her puppy dog eyes to let them go out to a local bar. He of course thought it was a terrible idea, but Illiana had appealed to his better nature. He loses focus on them dancing with each other the moment that Annie sat down at their table.
“You look deep in thought?”
“Are you not?” he asks her with a smirk. She nods her head, and reaches for his beer bottle. “Careful now, you’re underage, Annie Gables.”
“One sip won’t hurt anyone,” their conversation was too easy. She had thought about Brooks less and less. And even dreaded the thought of going home. Scared of what she would find. Over a week of him alone, and his favorite excuse for his recent behavior was right in front of her. His own brother.
He gives her a timid smile, before looking back down at the table. Otto didn’t get nervous in front of women, and here he sat, unsure what to say to the pretty redhead. “You ready for the rest of your family to be here?”
“Ready for ten more Baizen’s? I guess. Brookie coming?” Annie is the one to look at the table shrugging.
“Haven’t heard from him. He’s really busy at work,” really busy working on another woman. She has to bite at her lip, so she doesn’t cry. Unsure of how she’s going to go back. Ashamed that it’s him sleeping with someone else, and not the drugs that makes her want to leave.
“Annie, you deserve so much more than that. You need someone who will love and cherish you,” she looks up at Otto, and he reaches over to cup her cheek. The two having one of the many tender moments they’d had the past few days.
Iclynn stops her dancing to stare at the two. Confusion wasn’t even the word. She knew something was going on between Brooks and Annie, but now there was something blooming between her and Otto. “Ow, jackass,” she shouts at an older man who bumps into her.
“Well, look what we have here. Aren’t you girls a pretty bunch?”
“In your fucking dreams, asshat. Leave,” Illiana gives him a less than polite shove, while Daisy moves further away. Looking over to the table where Otto and Annie are, and bites at her lip. “Excuse me, I didn’t fucking stutter.”
“Ills, shut up,” Iclynn pulls her little sister back.
“A bunch of college girls, trying to sneak into this exclusive club. Which dick did you suck to get in here? I’ll give you another, and we can go to the VIP room,” Iclynn pulls at Illiana to get them away from the situation. “Oh, come on sweet cheeks. You’re ruining all the fun.”
“My pussy cost a lot more than you’re willing to spend.”
“Sugar baby, huh? You want daddy’s money?”
“Oh my god. I already got daddy’s money. Leave us alone!” Iclynn tries dragging her sister away, but Illiana was just getting started.
“You looking for a new daddy?” his eyes look hungrily at Daisy who rubs along her chest, tears in her eyes, and she only looks at Otto.
“My father has more than enough money. I don’t need your cheap ass,” Iclynn begins to get uncomfortable with the talk of money, even giving a yell of Otto’s name. The crowd backs further away from them, and she grabs Daisy's hand.
“You fucking bitch.”
“What did you just say to me?”
“Ills! Stop,” Iclynn reaches for her hand, and starts dragging her over to Otto, who finally takes a glance at the girls, and sees Iclynn trying to drag his sister, while Daisy has worried her chest to a deep red shade. “Just leave us alone. We’re leaving.”
“Shit,” Otto jumps up, jogging over to the situation. Looking over the girls, before pushing them behind his back. “What the hell are you doing to a bunch of high schoolers?”
“New money.”
“It’s the fucking Hamptons, man. Most of us have money. Who cares where it’s from.”
“These your bitches?” he squares up with Otto who gives him a devilish smirk.
“They’re my sisters.”
“Yeah, you’re a bitch, too.”
“Mr. Baizen,” the owner of the bar, steps beside the two of the men, eyeing up Otto. “Is everything okay?”
“This man has had too much to drink. And he was making advances on a minor.”
“What?”
“She didn’t give you the time of day, and she’s only seventeen, asshole,” with a snap of the owner’s fingers, he apologizes having the gentleman escorted. “Ills, I’ve told you about running that damn mouth of yours.”
“I can’t help it. He started it. Made it out like we just snuck in here. I didn’t even mention that Archie invested in this place.”
“Doesn’t matter. Grab your stuff. We’re going to the house,” Illiana whines at Otto, but Daisy and Iclynn scurry off to the table. “Ills, I’m not playing, and I’m not in the mood.”
“Can we have a drink? Please? Please? Please?”
“Fine, a bottle of wine or something,” he tells her as he pulls her to the table. Giving a quick, sorry to Daisy and Annie. “Wait, have any of you three had a breakup?” Annie snorts, looking between the three of them.
“No.” “Not recently.” “I’m a virgin.”
“Right,” he says, giving an odd look to Daisy. “If you stay in the house, away from water, you can have either a bottle of wine to share or some Ciroc and raspberry lemonade. Not both Illiana or I’m telling dad.”
“Narc, but honestly, thank you for being so generous with our alcohol consumption. Annie joining this time? I mean,” Otto narrows his eyes at her. “We’ve stayed in the room, and you didn’t notice. I stop them before they puke.”
“I stop you, before you make a fool of yourself on the phone,” Illiana shushes Iclynn quickly, giving her brother a sweet smile. Otto knows he’s in over his head with them, but tomorrow his family was arriving. “Can’t take it back, Otts. We’ll be good.”
_______________________________
Annie sits on the couch too close, and not close enough to Otto. The two nursing a beer as they watch some stupid movie and for the first time at ease. Able to hear the triplets giggling loudly on the other end of the house, but they were in their own bubble. Annie didn’t think about Brooks. Just carries on an easy conversation with Otto.
The next morning Carter walks in with Zephyr and slams the door to the house, when he sees Annie and Otto asleep on the couch. Both of them sit up, staring wide eyed at the man. Zephyr gives a quick little chuckle, “You’re in trouble.”
“Zephyr, go help your mother with the girls. Rosie can’t carry her own luggage.”
“Yep.”
“Annie, I need a moment with my son,” Annie had never seen Carter angry before, and it didn't take much for her to run towards the door, “Go get my daughters and Daisy. They can help bring in everything else,” she nods her head, and hopes she can wake them up. “Otto.”
“Not in the mood,” he says, going to stand, and walk towards the back balcony.
“I really don’t give a fuck what you’re in the mood for,” Carter follows right along with Otto, before his son stops. “What the hell are you doing?”
“Dad, it’s not what it looks like.”
“Not what it looks like? It looks like you were sleeping on the couch with a pretty redhead, who just so happens to be your brother’s girlfriend. Otto, we don’t do this. We’re Baizen’s.”
“I’m not,” Carter’s angry stare turns more into a hurt confused look. “I’m not a Baizen. I’m a fucking Barber. Isn’t that what Lydia calls me? This is what I do. I sleep with my brother’s girlfriends. Except we didn’t do anything. She…Brooks hasn’t even talked to her.”
“You are too a Baizen. That’s all you’ve ever been. Because I chose you and you chose me. You don’t remember it, but you reacted to my touch more than your bastard sperm donor ever did. If I ever hear you talk about you not being a Baizen again, I’m cutting you off.”
“I’ve made my own money.”
“Otto, this isn’t you. This insecure person who is doing whatever that is, with his brother’s girlfriend. Brookie looks up to you.”
“And looks down to his girlfriend. God, I know you don’t see it, because he wants to pretend he’s got everything under control, but he’s an ass to her. He expects her to be just like mom, and do everything for him with a smile on her face. The difference is he’s demanding it, and doesn’t treat her with respect. I know not every woman is going to be like mom and do everything for her husband and kids first. But you’ve always respected her, and never expected it. Dad, it’s not fair. He doesn’t love her. I do.”
Carter looks up at his son, looking more like an eighteen-year-old instead of his thirty-year-old self. He’s never been in love, or loved a girl for the past few months. Never had a girl meet the family. Never got personal with them. “This isn’t happening. Her and Brooks need to come to that conclusion. Otto, Baizen’s don’t cheat,” Otto scoffs at him, starting to walk into the house, hearing Rosie giggle, while Veda is begging to be held. “Otto, you put a stop to this. Your brother’s girlfriends are off limits. And if you think your mother won’t notice.”
“I got it. Baizen’s don’t cheat. We’re faithful, honorable. Just remember that.”
“What does that even mean?”
“I’m sure it’ll eventually come out.”
“I’ve never even noticed another woman, besides your mother, since she was seventeen.”
“Not you! God, not everything is about you! Not all of us have this picture perfect life with the woman of our dreams. Just drop it. I’ll stay away from Annie,” spinning on his heel he walks inside to see Audriana squeal at seeing Annie.
“Is he here? Annie, is my Brookie here?”
“No, sweet girl. Maybe we can call him later,” Audriana’s face falls for a moment before Carter comes up behind her, to pick her up, spinning his baby around in a circle. “Mr. Baizen, it’s not what it seems.”
Story looks over at Carter, with a toddler Rosie in her arms, giving him and Annie an questioning look, “I understand. I think you have some things to think about, and process though. How about, the rest of you lot, go get bathing suits on. We’re going on the boat.”
“My king?”
“Story, not now. Go get Veda and Rosie dressed. Zephyr’s going to help me get the boat ready. Arlo, you, too. Don’t go near the girls’ bedroom, just straight out to the boat.”
“Yes, sir,” Arlo says. He walks past Zephyr who gives him a playful smack to the back of the head.
“Baizen, you go easy on that sweet boy. He’s done nothing wrong, but start dating your oldest princess. Come on, Rosie Osie, let's get you and sissy your new bathing suits on.”
“And then, I get to be back with Daddy?”
“Yes, Veda. You’ll get to be with daddy the rest of the day, okay?” Zephyr grabs up his oldest daughter, tossing her in the air, before he peppers kisses all over her. Thanking his mom for getting them dressed. “Maybe daddy can find him a nice girl to bring home.”
“Ma!”
“I’m just saying. I made pretty babies. And not one of you but Brookie has a steady girlfriend.”
“Hey!”
“Baby, I’m sorry,” she walks past Raiden, giving him a sweet little belly rub. “I just like grandbabies, not from you, though. You finish school first. Sorry Birdie,” the sweet girl gives her a smile, but agrees completely. “Come on girlies, let's get dressed, and go on the boat.”

Otto sits on the sand, hearing his family giggling and laughing in the pool behind him. This had been a draining day at best. Every part of him had longed to keep touching Annie. He doesn’t want to toot his own horn, but he’s pretty sure she wanted it, too. He looks out to the horizon, wishing he would have grabbed a joint from Zephyr, because he could really use the escape.
He hated this. Hated feeling that he was in a constant losing battle. “Otts,” Zephyr laughs, throwing a plastic shovel at Otto’s back. “I brought the good stuff,” lighting up the joint, he passes it over to Otto for a quick toke. “So, what’s going on?”
“Nothing.”
“Nothing, as in a pretty redhead, Otto obsessed with redheads, said redhead is dating baby brother?”
“Nothing,” Otto deadpans, taking another drag.
“You were on the couch sleeping together.”
“Nothing happened.”
“Yeah. My wife had a man sleeping on our couch, too. A few of them actually. Passed out in various rooms of our house, remember that? Remember me finding her passed out in the bathroom, with Rosie crying on the floor? I couldn’t find Veda.”
“This is different. Don’t guilt trip me.”
“It’s different, because you’re not on drugs?” Otto shrugs, unsure where to take this conversation. “Look, you could seriously get any girl.”
“So could you.”
“I’m healing. Gimme that shit,” he grabs the pot from Otto, taking a long puff. “Man, sometimes I just want something to pound into. But I don’t know about relationships,” Otto snorts, looking at his brother. “Yeah, I know. I fall in love fast, and that’s how I ended up with a psycho bitch. Got two of the most beautiful girls in the world though. And Otto who doesn’t date, but is falling for your brother’s girl. You know he’s only dating her because she’s a redhead. He only wants to be just like you.”
“Yep, it’s true,” Archer reaches for the joint, before sitting down. “Raiden won’t be joining us. He’s in training. He doesn’t just know I brought some mushrooms.”
“God, don’t give that giant psychedelics. Who is going to carry him when he’s tripping? Archie don’t! You hit send. Explain that to mom.”
“Explain what to your mother?” Carter asks, sitting down between Zephyr and Archie, his hands already reaching for the joint.
“That Archie brought hallucinogens for Raiden.”
“Hey, I want that guy to have fun. It flushes out of your system. Practice will be a breeze for him. Why is he getting drug tested? He’s not in season. It’s spring,” Zephyr shrugs, while Carter laughs. “Ah! There he comes now. Big guy,” reaching in his pocket, he throws the bag of pills to him. “Arleigh made these last week. You’re good.”
“You’re giving me drugs my future mother-in-law made? This feels wrong. Dad, have you ever taken drugs from Mimi?”
“No. From Papa, yes. Gummies.”
“Papa doesn’t,” Carter nods his head at Archer, who starts laughing. “I want to see Papa high.”
“No. You don’t. Trust me on that. I wish Brooks could be here.”
“Yeah, but he’s working,” Carter shoots a glaring look at Otto, taking another hit from the joint before handing it to Zephyr. “He’s always working.”
“And you’re always here. By the way, I moved into your spacious office. I figured you weren’t coming back. Ow,” Archer grabs his arm, where Otto had elbowed him. “What’s the deal with Brookie? Is he starting a branch or a company? Should have already had that up and running,” Zephyr gives a quick nudge to Otto, shaking his head. “Rai, how many of those did you take?”
“Five. Me big boy. Me handle it fine.”
“You caveman. It’s a wonder how you’ve managed to get Birdie Mae.”
“Because I’m not looking for someone to replace mom? Just a thought. Stop it, or face the wrath of Rai Man,” he gives Archer a karate chop. “There’s only one mom. Dad’s already scored her.”
“Ten times,” all the boys groan, and kick a bit of sand at him. “Easy. Boys, all I have ever wanted is for you to feel fulfilled in your life. Whether it’s alone, with a man or with a woman. Just be fulfilled and happy.”
“And happy!” Zephyr reaches behind him to a cooler, passing everyone a beer, but Raiden. “Sorry, you’re a minor.”
“For like four months. Gimme that.”

Story stands at the top of the steps watching her boys. Their laughter is carried on the wind, but she never goes to sleep without telling Carter goodnight. Veda and Rosie already asleep in her bed beside Audriana, so she has a small window. She wishes that her itty bitty baby could be here. Misses him more everyday since he doesn’t call.
This is what she had always hoped for. Carter surrounded by his boys, being able to be their friend instead of just their father. And her husband looked so happy. Even with his high as a kite laugh. With a sigh, she picks up her dress, hearing her biggest baby cry in distress.
“Raiden, quit your screaming.”
“It’s no good. Ma!” he gets excited as she walks down to them. Leaning over Carter to give him a kiss. “Mom, I need belly rubs.”
“How is she going to rub your belly with chicken feet for hands?” Zephyr laughs laying back on the sand.
“Mama, why do you have chicken feet on your hands?”
“Oh, good grief,” she says, placing a hand on Raiden’s belly, giving him a little belly rub. “Zephyr Christopher, would you please stop it.”
“That’s not my name.”
“It is now. You want to torture my baby. You get a new name.”
“You called me Zephyr Christopher. I’m Zephyr Anders. Take it back.”
“Yeah, well, I can’t put you boys in timeout anymore, so I call you the wrong name,” she gives Raiden a pat to his belly, and kisses the top of his head. Making her rounds, to kiss all of them good night.”
“I mean, she’s called me Carter James Baizen.”
“You called dad after uncle Jamey,” Zephyr’s eyes completely closes, as he gives his dad a dopey laugh.
“No she didn’t!” Archer squeals.
“I’ve been Otto Steven before.”
“I’m Archer Beck. Caught her calling Brookie, Brooks Buchanan Baizen.”
“Ma! You are over here switching are names passive aggressively. What’s Raiden’s? Go on. Tell us what the baby boy’s name is,” Zephyr asks, still laying back on the sand, his own hands starting to rub his belly.
“I’m Raiden Jensen. Mom? Seriously, what are we gonna do about your hands? My belly still feels funny.”
“Go find Birdie Mae.”
“Oh! Okay. Burd-Dee! I’m coming, baby. No I’m not,” he sits back down, falling back to look up at the moon. “When will it stop?”
“What is he on Baizen?” giving Carter a little tug to his hair, to look up at her. “Baizen?”
“I didn’t do it. That was Archie.”
“He would never.”
“He did, Ma. And Zeph turned you into a chicken.”
“I’m bringing blankets. Baizen, don’t let any of you drown. I’m quite fond of you guys most of the time, but maybe you need to sleep out here.”
“My Queen, I’ll make sure all of us make it up to the house shortly. I’ve spent enough nights away from you. I won’t be spending another. How many are in our bed?”
“The youngest three. Audi is a bit upset that her Brookie isn’t here. Maybe you should call him?” Otto rolls his eyes, before laying into the sand. “He can at least spend a day and a night. Take Annie home with him. It’s out of the way for us. We’ll make sure she gets home, but still.”
“I’ll call him,” she turns to leave, but Carter grabs her hand, “I love you Story Baizen.”

Ransom sighs as his family finishes getting ready for the Kentucky Derby. It was something that Carter had wanted to do for Story, and she wanted everyone to join in. He had received his invite to The Mansion at Churchill Downs, and wanted to make sure that the family was ready to commit to three years of a Derby weekend.
Ransom was reluctant, you loved the idea of your family together, dressing up and wearing fun hats. Aster was all about the fashion. Planning out her and Eliana’s outfits. Lucy was begging to be left at home, not realizing how special the trip would be. James and Iris were ready for a good time, and some family coordinated outfits.
Carter wanted to be officially seen as off the market. Their first outing as an engaged couple. The past three years had seen Story come back to her bubbly self, and she was ready to not be so secluded. Blade on the other hand was looking forward to some southern debutantes, not even caring about being at The Mansion until Carter told him it was exclusive and a great flex. He didn’t even mention he got an invite as well.
So your family, and their pastel outfitted selves (minus Lucy and her bright colors, and Aster with her neutrals) set out for a family vacation. Carter had spared no expense in the vacation. And your sweet baby was so giggly talking about the ponies. Even had a three-year-old Otto talking about them with him.
You followed along with them, while your children almost separated. Story and Carter being introduced to potential clients. James and Iris walking along with Posie. Aster and Ellie were mingling, and the amount of gentleman that were trying to get the sweetheart from Boston was a great ego boost for her. And Blade...disappeared.
“Ransom,” you whisper at him, waiting in line to place your bets. “your son has ran off.”
“Oh, he’s my son when he’s being a disgusting horn dog, huh?”
“You have the baby in your hand.”
Ransom scoffs at you, “He’s three woman. And very smart. Even our adviser said that he was making good calls. Why are you worried about him? He’s nearly twenty-seven?”
“He’s beautiful like his father. And that,” you whisper. Your eyes dart around looking for any sign of your son, “It’s dangerous.”
“Your daughter is flirting with a bunch of old men. Taking our adorable granddaughter with her,” you blow out air at him.
“They’re just like you.”
“What about the married couple and your engaged daughter? At least James and Iris have a kid to keep them busy. We got,” he stops to look around a bit more. “Son of a bitch.”
“Baby, be quiet.”
“Papa, mama said that wowd is not nice. She’ww put hot sauce on youw tongue.”
“Your mom has to be present to do that.”
“Hew and daddy went expwowing. He wanted to show hew da coow bafwooms,” Ransom’s face jerks over towards you so fast. Eyes wide.
“They’re getting married.”
“He’s marking his territory.”
“You’we widicuwous, Papa. I want to do Chuwchiww Downs, Wace twewve, five hundwed to win on fwee.”
“The kid listens well,” your adviser says, approving of the his bet. “Does he really have five hundred dollar to bet on that? I mean...it’s frowned upon to do that. He’s two.”
“I’m fwee awmost fouw,” Otto stomps his foot at her. “Daddy gave me wots of money, because I went to wowk wif him aww week. I want my pony to win. Papa, bet fow me.”
Aster had been at Story all day, begging her to just try a mint julep, “Az,” the younger sister starts.
“No, I know, I know. But we’re all here, one drink or two will not kill you. Are you ever really at the Derby if you don’t have a mint julep,” Aster pouts at her, and James starts to interject, when Story looks up at Carter.
“Princess, if you really want a mint julep, I’m not going to tell you no. You’re going to be with me all day, so if you want to partake, you can.”
“I have always wanted to try one,” Carter gives her swift kiss to her neck, before he walks over to the bar. His eyes never leaving her, and almost as if knowing, James and Iris take a protective stance around her. “I’m fine,” she answers, squatting down to talk to Posie. Letting her niece know she looks absolutely stunning.
Story liked the drink a lot. Even ordering another two, the third one, Aster politely slides it away from her, before she finishes it herself. Already seeing Story’s eyes getting cloudy. Her hands already roaming over Carter.
“James,” Carter whispers behind his friend, causing the larger man to flinch.
“What?”
“Help me.”
He looks around confused as to what he needs help with, until he spots his wife giggling with her sisters. “What’s the problem?” he chuckles at him. The three kids with their grandparents, and Carter flicks his head over at Ransom, who randomly starts glaring at him.
“Story is horny, and tipsy, and has no filter.”
James lets out a belly laugh, taking a sip of his beer. Unusually Story and Aster are the ones that keep whispering at each other. “This isn’t good.”
“She won’t keep her hands off of me. And I’m pretty sure that Ransom is about to cut my dick off.”
“How can I help?”
Carter’s face falls flat, and he steps closer to him. Quickly taking a peek at his fiancé, who waves her fingers at him. “There’s only one thing that gets this out of her system? I know you’ve already been casing the joint. Where's a good place?”
“What?”
“You have wanted to christen this place since we got here. Where do I take her to where we won’t get caught?” James leans in closer to his soon to be brother-in-law and best friend, and give him the second best place to go. The first is for him and Iris.
Finishing just in time for Story’s hand to rub on Carter’s stomach, and James swears he can hear Ransom growl. “Carter, I’m hot,” she whispers in his ear.
“Yeah, I can tell. Come on, your fiancé is going take care of you. Menace. From this day forth, Story, if you are to drink, you get one drink.”
“A sip of yours. Carter,” he’s not sure what she was about to say because the first touch of her lips on his neck, and he’s almost lifting her to run to the location.
“Where are they going?” Iris asks James.
“Seriously, Icy?” Aster laughs at her sister. “You know the Princess of Boston couldn’t keep her hands off of him. He’s just making sure to cool that hot little body down. Look at daddy,” she giggles at Ransom, who turns around holding onto Ellie. A little pull of his jacket, has him paying attention to Otto’s choice in pony.
“And when’s the old married couple sneaking off? Blade has probably had several girls at this point.”
“Az!” Iris scolds. “He knows no more than two a day.”
“Does that mean at a time? He could have two threesomes. Does that count?” Iris gives her twin a little smack, and brings James behind her. Only barely rubbing her ass on him, until he gives her hip a swat. “Oh, don’t act like our brother isn’t hot. He’s a whore, too. All these southern belles,” she fakes a southern accent, fanning at her face, “They won’t even know what hit them.”
“How come your brother comes here alone, and he’s getting more ass than me, and I’m here with my wife.”
“Oh, I know all about how you like ass, Jamey boy,” Aster gives him a little wink.
“Iris Jade! Our bedroom, our secrets.”
“You two have been married since you could talk. It was bound to happen. Have fun. My gentleman caller that’s a horse breeder is waving at me. Have fun you, two. Maybe I’ll meet me a southern boy, bred and born,” James rolls his eyes and spins Iris around to scoff at her.
“Oh lay off, Jamey. Every couple is going to be experimental. You didn’t give Carter the good spot did you?”
“Nope.”
“Let’s go hot shot.”
Ransom looks at the non-existent numbers of his children, “Woman, we’ve been abandoned.”
“Our babies are young,” she glances over to where Ransom is now looking to see Lucy talking it up to a young boy about her age. With nothing left to do, she grabs at his hand and places it on her breast. “Stop it.”
“The babies!” but he doesn’t take his hand off. Posie taking a quick little snooze, while Otto and Ellie jump up cheering for the ponies, and no one sees where Ransom’s hand is. Giving your tit a few squeezes, and Lucy catches it. “Aha! I will embarrass you.”
“Ran, stop. Lucy is growing up. She’s gonna talk to boys, since that’s clearly her preference. By the way,” she knocks his hand off of her breast, and leans in for a kiss, “We’re not babysitting tonight. We’ve raised our kids. Now let them raise theirs.”
Blade holds his hand over your mouth. Your body pressed firmly on the wall, but your legs wrap around his waist as he thrusts into you. This isn’t what good girls do, but with a cute little, “Hey sweetheart,” in that Boston accent, and he had you melting. You don’t know much about him other than his first name, but he is like a god.
Attentive to your needs, making sure to stimulate every part of you. Even the hand that is trying to keep you quiet is the hottest thing. His fingers, learning your body before you were ever crashing into the first room available. Constant lingering touches, and the way he grips you bruisingly tight, and it’s just the right amount of pressure.
Even his grunting moans that reverberate in your ear. Your whole body on fire because the Prince of Boston is nothing but perfection. “This is the best I can do for these circumstances, sweetheart,” making your eyes roll in the back of your head. There’s no way. You’re not in love with the man, you’re in love with what the man can do for you.
"Fuck,” he grunts, when your voice sings out from under his hand, “If I move this, you gonna be quiet for me?”
“I can’t,” you’re able to mumble out in between your panting. Your hands pull him closer to you, and you’re painfully aware that there’s way too much clothing on. With a few more hard thrusts into you, he’s got you seeing stars. Lifting you up off his body, he gives his lengths a few more pumps, before he fills the condom up.
“Seems a bit extreme,” you breathlessly tell him. Your chest heaving, and you struggle to walk to the mirror to freshen up.
“Yeah, well, you’re not me, darling,” he grabs up the hard copy of the NDA, and you scoff. “You’re not from Boston. Wouldn’t expect you to understand.”
“Some big shot, huh?”
“Something like that. Also don’t need you knocking on my door in a few weeks from now claiming that you’re pregnant and come after my money, property, or businesses,” he steps behind you and fixes his own hair, and you almost glare at him.
“Don’t act like that. I had you cumming so hard over my cock, you couldn’t see straight. There’s nothing formal about fucking someone you just met at the Derby. You weren’t even invited to the Mansion were you? You arrived with someone?” biting at your lip, you give him a strange look. “Future brother-in-law was invited, but I also got the invite, too. Call me if you’re ever in Boston. NDAs look a bit different there.”
“Why’s that?”
“You only know if you make it to the penthouse. I could show you a great time.”
“Ahh, oh my god!” a blonde girl in an overly pink dress opens the door and dramatically walks away. “Bladey, seriously? This...Carter and I were going for round two.”
“Are you drunk?” he asks her.
“Horny.”
“Really, Carter?” the man behind her just shrugs. “I thought...”
“Aster talked me into a mint julep, and then I talked myself in to two more, and I need to sober up, so I can spend time with our son. Now this room is off limits because that...”
“I’m outta here,” you respond grabbing up your purse before walking away.
“She seemed lovely. Way to fuck someone and leave ‘em while you’re at the Derby. Now move. My mans is trying to make a baby.”
“Carter, you and I are going to talk after this.”
“Story, do you want to sit on your throne?” Carter whispers in her ear. Pulling her out of this room to find another one.
“I wanna baby.”
“You gotta fit in your dress.”
“There’s two of them.”
“And both were just tailored.”
“After the wedding will you put a baby in me then?”
“My god, yes,” he grunts pushing her into a new room. “Now stop talking before I have a hard time of telling you no.”

“Bladey?” Story peeks in your hospital room, alone. Her eyes searching for her bubba only to find him shirtless, holding tightly to your chunk girl, “Aw, bubs.”
Those big round eyes of hers beam at her Prince Charming brother, unable to speak when she sees him holding onto that tiny squishy girl. “This...it looks so good on you.”
“She makes me think of you,” he finally steals a glance towards Story, but quickly looks back at Fable. “Hopefully she won’t be such a pain in my ass.”
“Steven Blade! You don’t cuss in front of that sweet baby,” her feet carry her closer to Blade before sitting down beside him. Noting the amount of times that he sniffles. “I wasn’t a pain in your butt either.”
“You were,” his finger skims down Fable’s cheek, as he takes another sniffle. His face scrunching up before he’s having to wipe tears away. “It’s like you all over again.”
“But this time she’s yours.”
“So were you,” he stares over at Story, not leaving their face, and the two have a silent conversation with just their looks. “You were. I’d do it all over again for you, Ree. I get it.”
“What’s that?” she reaches over to grab Fable out of his arms, he holds on just a tiny bit tighter to get a quick kiss to her head, before letting Story cradle the little girl.
“Your weird need to keep having more of them. I don’t want twenty of them like you have, but I get it,” Story’s eyes fill with tears, slipping a finger into Fable’s fist. “Are you happy?”
“I’m so happy, Bladey. Are you?”
“Never been happier.”
“Fable,” Story leans down at her chubby little cheek, “my god you’re beautiful. Other than me and my boys, I think you got one of the best daddies. I would know, he was like my second one in ways. That stupid big daddy of yours is going to go to the end of the world to protect you,” her lip trembles when she finally looks up at Blade. “Thank you.”
“Thank you for what?”
“Being my Prince Charming. Now,” she laughs because she hates when she cries. Her hand fruitlessly wipes away the tears that continue to roll down her face, but still remaining effortlessly beautiful. “Whew, now, thank you for finally giving me my girl. I’m going to head on out, you can come by anytime to see her.”
“Give me the squishy girl, Story book,” Story gives Blade another smile, tilting her head, “Goah, I gotta get my buddy in here,” walking away he goes to retrieve the oldest Baizen boy. The only one that stayed, the rest at the castle with James and Iris.
Blade returns pushing in a very nervous Otto, his daddy following close behind as well. His thumb at his mouth as he bites at the skin surrounding his nails. Looking at his mom holding a little baby girl, before back up at Blade, “Mommy’s gonna steaw hew,” he gives a little giggle before looking up at her eyes. “Mommy?”
“Come here baby,” you cry as you watch that little boy look at your daughter for the first time. Being around so many boys, and never a baby girl. He pets at her skin, giving her the cutest little Otto talks to her. Story glances up at her husband whispering, “I want one, Baizen.”
Otto leans over the baby whispering in her ear, “I will pwomise you, I’m gonna pwotect you, okay? You’we my baby now,” Story’s crying face stares up at her big brother, even more tears falling down her face than before. Turning she stares back at that angel of hers.
"You wanna hold her?”
“Uncy Bwade can I?” with a nod from Blade, Otto jumps beside his mom, holding those hands out to hold ‘his baby’.
