I think he and Magnolia were schoolhouse sweethearts, were pining for each other bad since they were little. I think Noon's pick lil bouquets for her, and she'd share her lunches with him (always big enough for two, they weren't slick her mama knew what was up)

Think they used to "sneak away" to go walk by the creek, probably signed their names in an old tree somewhere out there. Think that's where they had their first kiss, maybe where he asked her out proper, got made her a lil promise ring out of some reeds or something?

Think he was planning to propose to her out there, too, their spot. Never got the chance, maybe never will. I wonder, then, does she ever go back there now that he's gone? Are their names still etched into the side of that tree? Or did she cross them out, heartbroken and betrayed?
