Outlander 31 Day Challenge: Day 26
Welcome to the Outlander 31 Day Challenge!
Today is Day 26: Favorite Jamie + Claire love/intimacy scene
This part of this scene in 01x09 "The Reckoning."
Claire is so close to Jamie in this moment - not just physically, but clearly emotionally as well. Jamie lets her initiate the kiss here, completely at her mercy, giving her choice.
And when Claire kisses him, Jamie's grin just shatters me every time. He is so in love with Claire in this moment, in every moment, always.
Seems

without
losing my own
Holding each other close. Comforting each other.
my favorite Colum MacKenzie line
I *loved* how Colum came to life in the series! Gary Lewis really understands the subtleties to Colum’s character. And my favorite Colum line wasn’t even in The Books:
“One day, brother, ye’ll talk yer heid off yer shoulders - and straight onto a pike.” - Colum MacKenzie, 01x09 “The Reckoning”
This line tells us everything we need to know about the very, very complicated relationship between Colum and Dougal. And it was delivered so coldly that there was absolutely no doubt that Colum saw - desired - this to happen to his brother.
And with everything we've seen of Jocasta MacKenzie Cameron Cameron Cameron Innes...I wouldn't put it past her to feel the exact same way about both of her brothers.
Jamie, 1743: “I want you, Claire. I want you so much I can scarcely breathe. Will you have me?”
Jamie, 1766: “I have burned for you for so long, do you not know that? But I am not the man you once knew. You and I, we - we know each other less now than when we were first wed...No, I don’t want you to go. But I must know - do you want me?”
Claire, 1743, and 1766, and forever: Yes
reflections
Here, in 01x09 “The Reckoning,” Jamie is at a crossroads.
And it’s reflected as such in this gorgeous shot.
Jamie is framed in a mirror - and we see what he sees. Namely - himself, trying to be brave - and his new wife’s back.
(it’s also a nice callback to the beautiful shot in 01x07 “The Wedding,” where Claire is so gorgeously framed in a mirror - highlighting her isolation, fear, loneliness)
At Leoch, Claire is still angry. Very angry. She doesn’t even turn around to face Jamie when he returns to their room. She keeps brushing her hair. Physically - and emotionally - turned away from him. Wanting to be alone.
Jamie, on the other hand - Jamie is all alone, too - but he doesn’t want to be. He created the mess, and he alone can solve it. He’s by himself in the mirror; he can only see the reflection of Claire’s face.
He knows that the words he says right here, right now will be the make-or-break moment in his marriage.
And right here, he is a man alone. On a solo mission, more critical and more important than anything he’s ever done. For he no longer wants to be alone. He wants Claire to look at him - to be with him, to choose him.
To share the reflection in the mirror.
Thankfully, Claire says yes.
And thankfully, we see them share - and enjoy sharing - a reflection.
1743: I want you so much I can scarcely breathe...will you have me?
Jamie is uncertain. He asks for permission - for consent. Terrified of the answer. Ecstatic at the outcome.
1766: Do you want me now? // Oh God, yes.
Jamie is uncertain - even now, at this point. He waits for consent - for confirmation. Terrified of the answer. Ecstatic at the outcome.
