catch me lying here face down on the floor and thinking again about how much sephiroth’s entire life has been fucked up by how he was raised. he’s fucked up mentally and emotionally and socially.
like i cannot put it accurately, i feel, into how much he truly is messed up and how some of this damage is, and always will be, permanent involving him and his world views. he’s damaged in so many ways that i’m amazed he’s as functional as he is.
i just have a lot of thoughts about how he was never a child and never anywhere near a child, how he never had a family until he met angeal and genesis, how his parental figures were ostensibly veld and gillian and those weren’t even close to being proper ones for him, how he never had a childhood, how he was raised to do nothing but learn the art of war and how to kill people.
he was raised in laboratories and by the turks and he was only sixteen, just sixteen, when the wutai campaign was declared officially over by both wutai and shin-ra and that was when a peace treaty was ratified. i think about how he was held up as the hero of the wutai war and what that did to his relationship with angeal and genesis.
shin-ra didn’t want a child. they wanted a weapon. sephiroth was socialized just enough that he wouldn’t be feral - and you look at how feral and withdrawn he is in general and you can tell it didn’t exactly work. his entire world view was not built on bedrock but on sand. he’s emotionally fragile, he’s awkward at being social, he’s got so much ptsd from so many things--
