wow you need to get over the Destiel hate lol Jensen Ackles himself said the song Watching Over Me is inspired by the story of Dean & Cas
oh are we really doing this in our year of the lord 2025? am i really getting shit about not liking destiel? it's almost nostalgic in a sad sort of way. it's been a long time since i got an anon who was clearly lost.
alright, you wanna do this? okay. i'm game.
let's just take a look at EXACTLY what jensen said about watching over me.
"A lot of songs that Steve and I have written, are.. uh, have double meanings. Uhm, they are analogies or they are, you know.. there's a way to kinda read two meanings into them, uhm.. Yes, the "Watching over me" was definitely, uh.. not all of it, but there were many lyrics in there that were inspired.. uhm by that.. that story, yes."
and just so we're all on the same page here's a link to a post that contains video, audio and text transcripts of the above and the question that inspired that answer.
first of all, he was sure to explain that the song was written as an analogy. it has double meaning. so like many songs, the lyrics don't necessarily outright state the true intention of the song. secondly, he was sure to clarify that NOT ALL OF IT was inspired by that story. so basically this, to me, is just another classic case of destiel shippers cherry picking exactly what they want out of that answer. none of you ever bothered to confirm WHICH parts are inspired by that story, but i'm used to that shit by now haha.
"but oh luke, surely you're biased against destiel," you say. "jensen is admitting dean had feelings for cas."
okay so you just wanna ignore ALL the other things jensen has outright said in regards destiel and to how dean feels about cas? just because he said that one song was vaguely inspired by that story? let me give you some examples of how jensen has felt about destiel over the years.
i'm assuming this all stems from the video i posted but i'll link that here again. jensen said that dean considers cas a "family member" and a "brother in arms" and "someone dean truely loved much like sam." "essentially he lost his brother in that moment." and that's how he played dean's perspective in regards to the 'i love you' scene.
here's a video and if you skip in to about 9:40 jensen talks about how in season 9 he was GLAD that cas and dean barely had any scenes together. "there wasn't a lot of dean and cas storyline in season nine. personally i kinda enjoyed that. i think the whole dean and cas thing has kinda gotten a little out of proportion. [crowd cheers] some of you know what i mean. [...] i don't think there's anything secret to their relationship even though a lot of people wish there was."
how about something more straight forward? here's a video where jensen literally says "destiel doesn't exist." i feel like that's pretty clear, right?
here's a post where jensen is so done entertaining the idea of destiel he won't even let someone ask a question about dean being bi.
those examples took NO time to find by the way, anon. i'm sure i could find more examples but i'd rather do something more fun or productive with my time.
here's the deal. i DON'T and WON'T ever ship destiel. i honestly don't even really give a shit about what jensen says but i'm not gonna let you try and turn one statement into a GOTCHA when there's been so many examples of him saying otherwise.
to me, cas is always going to be dean's friend at MOST. at its core supernatural is a story about two brothers and that's the love story there. the familial love story of sam and dean. as sad as it for dean, he died young and didn't get the love he deserved. and i don't think cas could have ever been that for him either way. but regardless, the show is about sam and dean. it starts with them and it ends with them. period.
you're free to ship whatever the hell you want and i'm gonna ship whatever the hell i want but lets be clear here. nothing said now is canon. destiel will never be canon. the show ended FIVE FUCKING YEARS AGO so if you're buying into any of this shit now i feel sorry for you anyway.
as the kids say these days, go touch some grass.
