( Vibe check ! )
╳ - “I see the spirits of the living and dead”
◉ - “I wish I was dead”
♛ - “I’ve already died over a hundred times and I won’t stay dead”
🌀 - “Literally everyone I ever knew died”
( Business as usual, then. )

{ Sorry I desperately need to ramble about how much of an important character Kirie is to me and why she makes for such a good horror protagonist }
{ So I recently bought hardcover copies of “Uzumaki” and “Shiver” - and Shiver has Glyceride in one of its stories ( or ‘Greased’ as they call it...which sounds dumb imo)
but this translation of the story has some of the weirdest censorship I’ve seen?
Like all the gross and horrifying stuff is still there, the dad and brother are just as awful and their dialogue is exactly how I remember it being but...
Yui’s is so....dulled?? Like in both the translations online ive read before and in the Junji Ito Collection Yui stands out from the other protagonists because she’s genuinely angry about what’s happening to her despite being the youngest, and she uses strong language.
But all of that is?? removed?? on this version??
Like instead of calling her brother a sadistic freak she calls him “Malicious”
Instead of shouting “It’s grease! It’s godamn grease!” she says “This is oil...”
Yells “What?!” when she wakes up to her dad force feeding her oil instead of “What the hell?!”
I’m just genuinely curious at this point if the english version of this manga is more concerned about censoring a child swearing and using more aggressive language compared to her brother’s literal threats to kill her as he’s choking her.
What a world }
