Hannibal Lecter is an extremely well-developed, three dimensional, multi-layered character. He’s dangerous and terrifying, alluring and mysterious, and has such a sadness about him that makes your heart just break. Not to mention, he’s a genius capable of prodding into the inner most workings of your mind. We see him fall in love, and transform from a vengeful teenager to a cold and calculating adult. I love that. He’s one of the greatest fictional characters of all time.
He’s an asshole. In both the book and show he literally sent a serial killer after Will’s family, not to mention in the show, he killed a young girl and countless other innocent people. Also, if you read Hannibal and Hannibal Rising, he seems to have a thing for incest (which honestly I do find interesting, but still).
Favorite episode (scene if movie)
My favorite moment has got to be at the end of the novel “Hannibal” when he shows his weaker side to Clarice, just as she did to him in Silence of the Lambs. It’s wonderful and so touching, and my favorite part of my favorite book.
Season 2 of Hannibal was awesome all around.
“The most stable elements, Clarice, appear in the middle of the periodic table, roughly between iron and silver.Between iron and silver. I think that is appropriate for you.”
Bonus: “We can only learn so much and live.” (This isn’t a line by Hannibal himself, but it’s my most favorite Hannibal-related quote of all time. It’s the very final line of the Hannibal novel.)
I really dig his prison outfit in Silence of the Lambs. I can’t explain why. It’s great though.
Hannibal x Margot. I love, love, love how he not only gave her the courage to kill Mason, but basically was like “dude just tell them I did it!”. That just. I don’t know. I know killing is wrong and yadda yadda yadda but that just gives me goosebumps and it’s so great. He was the one that told her it was okay to be weird and basically validated her so much and I love that.
Clarice Starling was the only one in his life who ever truly understood him. I like to think if she had been in his life earlier, things may have been different. Or not.
I don’t like really like him with Will in the context of the show. I feel like it could have been done better than it was. It’s a long story, and I’ll explain it off-anon if anyone’s curious, but yeah.
Is it weird that I want a full, written out scene of Mason coming onto Hannibal as he did in the novel? Because it’s fucking funny and I need this in my life.
An oh-god-please-dont-ever-happen
please don’t let hannibal ever have more bad dreams of mischa because oh god. also, if Clarice were to die, I would die right along with her.
