matthieu is born to a muggle and a witch and that is his first mistake. it’s why the witches sneer at him when his father walks him through la rue furstemberg ; it’s why his uncles watch him so closely , apprehension clear on their face ; it’s why he can slip through the cracks and fill the spaces in between , but he will never find himself welcome in any place he wants to call home.
after beauxbatons , matt is conscripted to the war. it’s not quite the second mistake , but it leads to it. when he returns , he’s not quite the same. he loses his idealism. growing up , he’d always wanted to close the gap for people like him ( the half - bloods with one foot in , one foot out ). the thing is , after the war , he sort of forgot about it.
when he returns to france , he picks up a job at bar -- it’s nothing but a glorified a hole in the wall , but it pays for him to get his own place. it’s sandwiched neatly by a hostel , and a potions shoppe. this is where he meets tatiana greengrass that fateful summer and this is how he comes to commit his third mistake : falling in love with someone above his station. he thinks he truly fell in love with her , but the relationship ends before the leaves change colours. that summer though , she pushes him to finally do his auror training.
but , his fourth and final mistake was working at la ministère des affaires magiques de la france. despite his years of service with the french ministry , matthieu found that he couldn’t shed their judgement and the incident of his birth constantly followed him around. and so , when he received the offer to transfer to the english ministry ... he took it. honestly , being partnered up with atticus lestrange ( who thankfully , it’s a prejudiced fuck ) isn’t so bad.

handsome boys grow up knowing they’re handsome , and matthieu , with pride , classifies himself as such. while he can be a bit of an ASSHOLE , he’s still rather CHARMING. sort of. maybe CHEEKY. it’s a french trademark.
he’s comprised mostly of RAGE. it’s a controlled rage , but rage nonetheless.
matthieu’s got a big of a commitment issue ( this is likely due to the fact his most meaningful relationship was a summer romance ). while he’s fairly sociable , good luck getting to know him. he’s fairly DISTANT.
