thinking about ang lee talking about heath ledger’s performance in brokeback mountain, how his character actually had the most lines and yet seems to never speak, how he’s a closed fist and the words have to be punched out of him like metal with an awl, and that’s just really a massive gendry vibe, the way he has to drag the words out of himself and the way they come bursting out blunt and and graceless
#the older he is the worse it gets esp after the brotherhood#he can talk to the kids that's the only time it's easy for him#and later on he can talk to arya easily enough and might be able#to with hotpie etc if he ever saw him again but#overall he#really shows like actual physical obstruction when speaking#you can see him preparing / forcing himself to speak#hc.
