my friend came over yesterday and we watched some tv and the AMOUNT of ads about sugar, chocolates and junk food on tv is UNGODLY.
i’ve actually been thinking about it this morning and i felt very galaxy brain so here are my thoughts on the matter, just for me to read through again on a later date i guess :p
so. 70% of each commercial break was focused on chocolates/candy/croissants/snack bars/bread/junk food. literally. and at this point it just makes me mad.
it’s immoral and it’s easy money. it kills people, it reduces their quality of life (as well as the quantity) and yet it flies under every radar in the world as completely fine.
every company out there keeps making their shit MORE sugary, MORE flavourful, RICHER, with MORE fat, with MORE concentrated addictive crap that messes with your brains signals.
we do NOT need pizza/burger combinations as a species. they SHOULD NEVER HAVE EXISTED. we have NOTHING to gain from croissants filled with cookies and cream! it’s not a thing that should have been manufactured. it’s almost impossible to go out and find a place that makes coffee (COFFEE!!!) without forcing you to add your body weight in some variation of sugar or fat to it.
so, ANYWAY, my first issue with this, is that people keep trying to make these things worse. they keep trying to make this junk more concentrated and more addictive because it’s easy to gain from that. it’s easy to gain from getting people hooked on eating four donuts a day. it’s easy to gain from selling packages of six (6!!!!!) huge chocolate bars and slap ‘pay for 5 get 1 free‘ deals on them.
my second issue is society’s attitude about it. no one finds it wrong or weird or manipulative that we’re being held hostage by these companies. i actually told my friend yesterday that i was sick of all the chocolate and candy ads and she was like, ‘is it giving you cravings? you have chocolate in the house, just have some.‘ and no it wasn’t giving me cravings, it was just getting on my nerves. we watched a croissant ad claim their shitty shitty product was the best way to start the day, and ???? what??? bitch. bITCH. i can barely tolerate cereal and fucking energy bars make that claim (that’s a whole other can of worms, i’m incoherent as it is, i can’t get into THAT one right now), but for a croissant? and it was actually some kind of super special extra bad version of it where instead of the regular filling it had some sort of enhanced bullshit inside of it.
now my third and biggest issue is society’s attitude on sugar and chocolates and candies and junk food in general. even from medical professionals and dietitians the first thing that comes out of their mouth is ‘well, you can’t go your entire life without having candy again, just try to limit it to three a week‘ or something. and. like. WHY? why can’t you go your life, your everyday life without candy and junk food???? why not?! it offers you nothing other than confusing brain signals, hyperglycemia and the possibility of getting hooked on it. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU HEARD SOMEONE SAY YOU CAN’T GO YOUR ENTIRE LIFE WITHOUT HAVING A CIGARETTE EVERY NOW AND THEN??? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME SOMEONE ADVISED YO TO LIMIT YOUR HEROIN TO TWO HITS A WEEK? WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW A TV AD FOR WEED OR EVEN REGULAR SMOKES? FOR FUCK’S SAKE TV ISN’T EVEN ALLOWED TO SHOW PEOPLE TAKE A DRINK IN ALCOHOL ADVERTISEMENTS!!!! BUT SUGAR AND OVERENRICHED, SICKLY JUNK FOOD IS FINE SOMEHOW??? WHY?!?!?! IT’S SUCH BULLSHIT!
of course you can go your life without having one smoke. you can go your entire life without ever EVER doing heroin, not even the once. most people do. not doing a thing that messes up your system to give you a few seconds of ephemeral pleasure, doesn’t reduce your enjoyment of your life. not eating candy bards and chocolates and cakes and donuts and fucking pizzas with burgers on top of them doesn’t reduce your quality of life, it promotes it.
we’ve been brainwashed into thinking sugar and fat is some kind of necessity for a pleasurable life and that’s simply not true. yes it overwhelms your taste buds for the seconds you have it in your mouth, but that’s not enough for an entire species to deem it necessary. smokes reduce your stress levels for hours and yet no one considers THEM necessary. even most smokers themselves consider it a Filthy Habit(TM) but try telling anyone that having 400 grams of carbs every day is a filthy habit without getting lynched.
we’ve been brainwashed, because it’s easy money for people who already have more money than us. money that they don’t spend on fucking candy bars.
we don’t need it, there’s so much more in life.
and this really isn’t coming from a mentality of restriction or eating disorder, i just genuinely, truly do not see the difference between consuming artificially added sugar and doing heroin. i just don’t. i don’t see how it’s moral to make more variations of teeny tiny candies that have the concentrated amount of nutrients of thirty chocolate bars.
and i definitely don’t understand why ‘you can’t go without it‘. i literally can’t see why you can go without morphine, but not without chocolate cake. other than the fact that sugar is so easily accessible and readily available to everyone. cheap and easy to find.
but the truth is that there are so MANY things to enjoy in life. there’s so much music in the world. so much to look at. there’s so much sun to enjoy. there’s so much stupid shit you can do. there’s television and movies and books. THERE’S DAYDREAMING. there’s people to be with, there’s sitting by yourself and thinking. there’s so much to consume, without ever touching another candy bar. we don’t need it.
we don’t need it, but they want us to think we do.
we wouldn’t care about it, if we hadn’t been brainwashed to care.
we wouldn’t consider it ““““““““restriction”“““““““, if we hadn’t been told that that’s what it was. if we hadn’t been brainwashed into thinking that not buying their crappy low quality product is deprivation, we wouldn’t feel deprived.
we wouldn’t even be aware of it missing from our lives, if we weren’t constantly being told that it was.
we wouldn’t want to be constantly eating, every second of every day, if we hadn’t been told to do it.
fuck all of it. fuck every single person that has sat down and tried to figure out ways to make this bullshit richer and more addictive.
it’s immoral, it’s stupid and i’m over it. i’m so so over it.
