You stand at the edge of a precipice. Stretched out beneath your feet is an entire city lit up in the neon glow of thousands of lights fighting the darkness of night. Even from here, far from the city itself, you can hear the sounds of a city wide awake with car horns and music and a cacophony of voices. Your eyes pick out a movement starting at the edges of the metropolis, where the lights are dimmer and the shadows more reaching. The movement becones a hulking shape, swiftly cutting through the air. Street Lamps burst upon its passing, creating even more darkness. It slithers in a way that is reminiscent of a snake through grass, but has no identifiable shape. It is pure pitch, like it is sucking all the light from its surroundings into itself and reflecting nothing. Suddenly this strange anomaly stops, tenses, and then dives down into a dark alleyway and vanishes. The rest of the sprawling city is completely unaware of anything out of the ordinary having taken place, and those who possibly saw something are too drunk or high or far gone to ever be able to describe it. But you will remember it, remember the utter blackness of its being, the raw power emenating from its core. You lift your arm and look at a device strapped to your wrist. It is like a screen, but clunky and inset into a strange gauntlet. You press a few buttons and the screen comes to life, a blue light casting upon your face. A map of the city you have been looking down on appears and you press down on the part of the map the strange phenomena vanished at. A red marker appears and blinks above that space. You power down the device and turn from the cliff, walking into the shadows untouched by the city lights. You repeat in your mind the silent vow you made years ago, to find answers for those who seek them, and to hunt down the darkness that plagues your city.
