… I heard everyone elses phone go off, did you get a text too?
She shifted against the stump of a tree awkwardly. Pulling her sunglasses down, she lay her head back and cried. It had been days, and her darling best friend, and crush was well and truly dead. No mistakes. She had to keep a brave face for Alec, because he was struggling to come to terms with it. But it was devastating, to say the least. The class bell went, and she remained sitting in the sun, under the tree. Some quiet time to grieve sounded like a good idea to her Will she be missed by anyone else? Or will she be forgotten?
Lainey had been taking an unusually long time to set up the stage of the church for tomorrow morning, causing her to be in the building rather late. It usually only took her a few minutes, but she was getting distracted by her thoughts tonight. As soon as she heard the auditorium’s door open, she froze, clutching the flowers in her hands to her chest and turning to face the person who just walked. With a sigh, she steps back a step, eyeing the doorway, not being able to make out who’s figure it was. “H-Hello? Who’s there?” She asks, timidly.
“I mean, I know I’m short, but seriously? That guy over there just told me to ‘Run home to your daddy, little girl, it’s not safe to walk on your own.’ Lainey spoke softly, her smile faint and exasperated. “I mean, I’m eighteen, not twelve.” She sighs, running a hand through her hair.
--I’m not-I’m not going to answer any questions. If you could just-- fuck off.
